whenever we meet people from our village…its always the same discussion…always that nostalgia about how things were, how things have changed…talks about who is doing what now in the gaaon…
how we should move back, how we r gona buy zameen te makaan there…if not in the pind then atleast in the town nearby…but then what will we do there away from the city…? no sarkein, no schools, no facilities…
$-=-$ jogan $-=-$
there’s a sense of something missing tho in this life in the city…something vital being absent..its such a dilemma
$-=-$ jogan $-=-$
why do we do this? spend our whole lives at a place which doesn’t feel like home? but for us, even the pind isn’t home anymore, or is it? dhobi ka kuTTa na ghar ka na ghaaT ka…? its all such a dilemma
$-=-$ jogan $-=-$
moving away from ones roots…maybe good materially…but always leaves a vacuum in one’s life…displaces one’s soul forever…
I dont think leaving your pind leaves a vaccum, if you maintain a link to it. Village Life is very difficult and people are very poor, and to break the cycle the best option is to go to the city. Universities and schools are generally available in large cities. If someone has an oppurtunity to better their life, then I dont think they are going to give a secodn thought to maintaining roots,etc,etc..Everyone wants to better their life. In our family we have large amounts of land in our ancestral village and we maintain a link. Some of our family has moved to Lahore, others remain in the village. However those that went to Lahore can do more for the family and those in the village than they could if they never left. I was in my pind this year, during Eid. We brought two guy'an (cows) for qurbani and it was enough that everyone was able to have meat. Most ppl rarely eat meat b/c they cannot afford it. You see small kids wearing torn dirty clothes carying meat wrapped in their shirt b/c most dont have a bag to carry meat home in. If you maintain a link to your village then I dont think you are losing anything.
However I do enjoy the pind, b/c the people there are generally more "real" than city folks, but dont drink kachaa doodh if they offer :)

I also have pind remote one in gujrat on bank of Chenab river, and it always have special link and feel of having roots in there. we moved to lahore again reason economic migration or more oppertunities.
somehow we were able to keep contact, once a year visit or more. cause some of the family still live there. now i moved from lahore to london 6 years back. but whenever i go to pak, i also spent some days in my Pind.
one thing, If i go to Lahore, I forget all stress and worries or anything about london being in family.
and when i go to pind i forget everything abotu lahore for while. its different to be in entirely separate environment.
that may be human nature, but certainly one feel sense of "appnaiyat"!
