I wasn’t sure if I should open this topic, but this has been buring inside me for some while now and i have to ask.
When i was young around 12 or 13 years old, we used to visit our village in punjab during our visit there… I still remember that once my phoopo took us to a place where the women from village would wash cloths (kassi) once a week or so. This is what i saw with my own innocent eyes .. After finishing the laundry the females took off their cloths and starting bathing in the crystal clear water… u could image as someone who is not used to pind way of life was shocked that every female was naked in the water. They told me and my sister to join them and we were like no thanks … i asked my phoopo, (who was never married and stayed in the village in our grandparents place) as she did not join the rest, what if men come along and see them, arent they embarrassed, thats when one naked female replied ‘oooh they dont come here as they know that we take bath here’. Well anyway as they were taking their bath there were men voices behind that bushes on the surranding hills, but they seemed to not care much about it. okay that was the last time we went back there.
But i have heard that in pinds and villages female take showers baths in open places, seen it twice and still cannot believe it. I dont know if they are still doing it today as our village has gotten quite modernized with time.
My question what difference is this pratice from nude beaches, is this a part of the village culture or do men really stay away from such places, even if they can easily take a peak.
I doubt that men can keep away from a lake where women are having bath, aur wo bhi nude;)
As far as I know the pind culture from my own pind of origin, women dont take bath in public. Then again,I think it all depends on the water ressources in the areas. In villages where they dont have water pumps and need to go to lakes etc. to get water, its more practical to bring the dirty laundry to the lake and wash it there and while they are in the water, they might as well have a bath.
Scarce of ressources might changes ppl's values and morale. Easy for us to sit here and judge them, while we got all the basic ressources. But for ppl like them life has a totally different perspective.
never heard abt it in my life ...this is something new for me , i have seen 2 villages in punjab laken assa too kabhi sunaa he nahiN hain , if it is true to thats a really bad thing ..aur haN i dont think it is a part of our culture .
Nashi, i am not judging them for heavens sake ... where did i wrote that they i am. You are right about the water ressource problem, i know in sommer they have water shortage so thats the only way to get them clean and to relax in water during those hot days.
Well i forgat to mention that they would not bath in all open but would hide behind some rocks, bushes and would not display themself all to openly, but even i have seen the opppsite too.
Errm... I've spent a good deal of my life in a pind, and i've never seen such things happen. I know in olden days women used to go wash clothes at the khaala and wash their hair there too, but not get naked and all jump into the canal.
This used to happen in my village as well, but that is long time ago. As for whether or not men really stay away, yes they do, for several reasons. In pinds the concept of respect is different, plus any interested man could risk seeing his own sister or amma swimming in there.
Nude beaches?? This is only practiced at places where they don't have many resources. It's the same as out door toilets, men just don't wander in does areas, as it's considered as serious offence, at least in my pind it was.
i don't know if this type of bath is still in practice but some 10-15 years ago it was.
this village was my khala's susrali ga'oN.........n it was quite common there with lower class .....upper class used to have bucket bath n these buckets were fetched for them by these lower class women
Oh my gawd this thread is funny, brings back memories for me people. Memories from about 20 years ago though. In my naani gee’s pind there used to be a kussee and the women used to wash their clothes there. They never used to take baths there themselves they used to give their kids a bath, so yeah that was me at 4 years old. Ive been there a few times since but the kussee has dried out completely and people just go there for walks. That pind is still pretty backwards though in that they still dont have proper toilets there and the people go to toilet in the baariyan (fields) at night, which is a crack up.
Oh my…and I thought you were one of the knowledgeble person around…:p…I know about this but it was in the past…and yeah man would avoid going to that area…
that was one heck of an interesting topic...where did you get this idea from? you surely can become a great writer :D
waisay, i have been to many pinds in my life but, as many ppl mentioned, i too havent been to such a place. mann! why is it that i always miss a lot of interesting things happening around me :(
