Every so often I have an outbreak of pimples on my face but they are localised to around my nose and above and below my lips. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pimple anywhere else. I’m not very savvy about this topic and I was wondering what you guys use to control pimples.
Foundations and make up are out of the question since I am a dude (I’m not sad about being a dude)
I don't use any face wash actually. Well I mean besides water and bath soap lol. Although there is a pH isohex face wash I see in my bathroom that I'm considering using.
Hmmm, sometimes soap can dry your skin out, so maybe use something that's designed specifically for the face. I dunno, I never had acne (alhamdulillah) so I'm not really an expert at this stuff.
I usually find that diet affects my skin (esp. drinking lots of water), although sometimes it can just be hormones.
Errr, I'll see what the other guppans say about that skin care products to use :/
Yeah there are several factors that can affect it, I'm just not intimate with what affects what and how. I get exposed to alot of dust at work too and I'm there about 10-12 hours a day so no doubt that has an impact.
go for 'ACCUTANE' treatment...it eradicates the problem for ever...taking antibiotics is NOT a good idea because you develop resistance to them over a period of time if you use it for longer periods. u must take acutane treatment under a Dermatologist's supervision...your kidney and liver function tests must be conducted at regular intervals...to make sure you don't develop any problems. this treatment lasts for about 4 months. Good Luck!

dont use any such face wash. I have had a long life problem of such acnes they cant leave u until u do too many perhaizez like avoiding oily and grm things. wash ur face many times a day. if u r five times prayer and wash ur face minimum of 5 times a day then this be vry good. I used some costly face washes and cleansers and ala bla but of no use. try to eat simple routine life roti salin avoiding too spicy things. and upermost be ur life in islamic ways.

Thanks!
Foundation is not totally out of question but anyway ... that's a personal choice
There can be 2-3 reasons
1- Your face is not clean all the times. Washing your face with any anti-acne facewash only twice a day (morning and night) and many times during the day with water only, helps a lot. If you cannot leave frequently, you can keep face wipes and use them.
2- Your diet. Change your eating habits for a while. Avoid junk food, oily stuff etc and include yogart and milk in your diet.
I’m not sure why but for some reason I thought you were a woman…up until now! I dealt with acne all over my face and back starting around 13…up until I was 25. They also left hyperpigmentation (dark spots). BTW, foundations and other make-up is a horrible idea to deal with acne (even for women). All they do is cover up the problem. The goal should be to reduce or eliminate the occurance of the pimples in the 1st place. In your case, I don’t think diet is an issue since your pimples are very localized (ie. around your nose/upper lips).
Here are my thoughts:
You need to start using a cleanser. Especially since you get exposed to alot of dust at work. Most soaps are too drying for face. If the face is too dried out due to over washing or using harsh products, the skin produces extra oil to make up for it. And this leads to even more clogged pores. Get super gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil. In the morning, use only cold water to wash face. When you get home from work, use the Cetaphil to wash.
Get a toner. Biore 2% salicylic acid is a good one in my opinion. Once you wash face with Cetaphil, when the skin is totally dry, clean entire face with toner. That should remove any extra dust/dirt etc. left behind.
I would recommend trying a cream at night that has glycolic acid in it. Alpha Hydroxy 12% glycolic cream soufflle is what I have used but there are others out there. Look for something that has between 10%-15% glycolic acid. About an hour or so before going to bed, apply this all over your face. In the beginning, apply this 3x/week. After the 1st week, if your face isn’t too dry from the cream, then increase the amount to 4x/week. And if your face handles that well, then increase it to 5x/week…and so on.
** Anytime you’re using ingredients that treat acne (such as glycolic acid), you must use sun screen b/c it makes your skin extra sensitive to the sun (well, you should be using it anyway!). So please also get a good sunscreen and always apply that when going out during the day. I use Devita sunscreen which I purchase from Amazon.
If/when your face feels dry and you think it needs moisture, use some type of oil such as Aragan, Rosehip, or Avacado. Garden of Wisdom is a site that sells all these oils but there are other similar sites onilne.
I think you should try the above routine for at least a month to see if there’s any positive change. There are other things that’re used to treat acne and not all products work for everyone…but I think the above would be a simple quick routine that you, as a guy, won’t have issues following daily.
** You may also want to consider going for a exfoliating facial every 2 months or so. I make my hubby go every 2-3 months and he’s always amazed at how his nose area looks afterwards (b/c they dig all the blackhead and other crap out of it).
On a side note: Please do not even think about Accutane! :nono: It has HORRIBLE side effects, and is used to treat SEVERE cystic acne that has not responded to any other treatment. There is absolutely no reason to even consider this for occasional localized acne that have not been treated yet with every other option available. Anyone who’s even considering this should do some reading online on accutane side effects. There is a reason this was recalled in 2010.
Have you noticed any pattern as to when you break-out? It could be that you have an oily 't-zone' which attracts dust etc. and clogs your pores resulting in pimples. A facewash with tea-tree will really help or a witch hazel toner, make it a habit to scrub using a mild exfoliant atleat 2-3 times a week.
I will go out with a friend who is well learned in this field and apply these advices. Obviously not all at once and make my face a chemical cocktail :D
I'll start with a cleanser and toner and a gloylic acid cream. Let's see how we go :)
