Pimples on upper arms

Can someone please let me know a cure for these small spots that appear (mostly in winter) on upper arms?

I’ve heard that applying olive oil helps but does anyone have any other suggestions (that actually work!?)

Olive oil won't work.. Differin used for acne on the shoulders, chest and back does reduce them.

Re: Pimples on upper arms

Differin? What's that? A pill? or cream?

It's a topical cream :)

I don’t think I can get that from England :bummer:

Hey, that is actually called "Keratosis Pilaris" and it's not acne. You can try going to a dermatologist who'll give you some ointment or if you wanna try a natural remedy first then google "oil pulling for keratosis pilaris". Oil pulling has many benefits and one happens to treat this condition.

I was actually going to make a thread about oil pulling since many people don't know about it. I'm gonna do it too but oil pulling had to be done w/ sunflower oil and I'm out of that atm. -_-

Re: Pimples on upper arms

There is no cure for Keratosis Pilaris or KP as it is commonly referred to. You can try a number of different stuff to keep it at bay but it will never go away completely and the treatments must be done of a regular basis. Essentially your skin produces too much keratin which causes the keratin into plug your pores. Retin -A has been known to control the production of keratin. Glycolic acid/ or any other of the AHA or BHA acids help increase cell turnover. A combination of these will decrease the amount of keratin produced and get rid of any that is produced at a faster rate. For some people exfoliating works. I tried Microdermabrasion thinking I had finally found the solution, but it was a DISASTER. my KP flared up and became stubborn and painful. If may work for you but didn't for me.

Accutane (derivative of Vitamin A) is used to treat extreme forms of hyper keratization and when i say extreme I mean babies with Harlequin type ichthyosis which is when a new born has thick layer of keratin on their body (most such babies die). But I doubt ppl will KP will even get a prescription of accutane coz it is a very potent drug.

I dont really like the sound of swishing oil around in my mouth for 15-20 mins. Makes me feel quesy. Surely there has to be another way? :bummer:

I know someone who took that and it caused them severe depression even though their skin was flawless.

Besides, Iam getting married in a few months and it's deemed risky to take this if you're going to try for babies.

Re: Pimples on upper arms

I've had KP all my life, and sadly there's no cure. You can just do stuff to treat it but you have to keep up with it or it'll return. And it's get worse in the wintertime cuz of the dryness.

You can try exfoliating with KP duty (you can find it at sephora) and moisturize with an AHA lotion. It'll help smooth it out but if you have those red/brown dots i doubt it'll help with that. I just started using bio-oil this week cuz it's supposed to help with scars and stuff plus moisturizes at the same time but i need to use it for at least 2-3 months to start seeing results.

Re: Pimples on upper arms

I have that too

Re: Pimples on upper arms

1 in every 3 ppl have it ladies. so no worries;). I do get irritated when desi girls will be like WHAT IS WITH YOUR ARMS, and i am tempted to say get your head out of your @$$ every other person has it.

Then NO WAY, do not have it. If you go on Accutane, they do monthly blood tests and make you go on the birth pill AND use condoms. Every pill comes in a small pouch with a huge warning reminding you to not get pregnant. It's lethal for the fetus.

Re: Pimples on upper arms

^hahaha, my friends do that too!

Stardust, you can get it in England, though you need a prescription from your GP!

Re: Pimples on upper arms

Try washing daily with a soap free shower gel and warm water. keep it clean and dry.

Re: Pimples on upper arms

Hi There - that is not acne so you don't need accurate, differin, etc. Those are just hair follicles not totally surfaced yet. Try using a washcloth in circular motions or a body scrub in the shower and then pat dry the area. Try to avoid too many lotions/oils as it clog up the skin.
