My friend is going through a lot of stress due to her hair loss problem. She now has bald spots on her head and her scalp hurts because of the pimples. She went to India and saw a dermatologist there but was told that it was some fungal infection and the doctor just prescribed some shampoo and told her to wash her hair less often. That advice did not work and the shampoo has been making her hair fall out even more. She had gone to a doctor here at Canada also, but that doctor had told her that it was normal for her to loose this much hair and that the pimples on scalp just meant that she was not washing her hair enough. He had told her to wash her hair more often, and that advice did not help either. I have been pushing her to go see her doctor here again but she is reluctant to go and at the same time very depressed. If you guys have any tips on how to solve her problem we would both really appreciate it.
First of all see the Doctor again!

see a homeopath
Re: pimples on scalp/hair loss
If it is hairloss due to stress it could be alopecia areata for which your friend will have to see a dermatologist and get cortizone injections to the scalp. The sooner the friends does this the better. !!!!
If she doesnt do this it will get to a point where reversal would be very difficult if not impossible. Since you firend is a girl...its more important that she take care of this asap.
Guys can be bald and be okay with it eventually. Girls cant!

Re: pimples on scalp/hair loss
Thank you ladies for all your help.
ATA, she eats really spicy food so I gave her your advice to cut down on it.
Munza and fayax, I have been forcing her to make an appointment, and I am sure she will do so right after her exams.
mistypurplespark, i dont know what kind of derm she saw but she was told to use some antibiotic shampoo also. she has been using it for over two months now without seeing any results. In fact her scalp acne/hair loss is getting worse. Her doctor here didn't think she needed to see a derm, but I am hoping she will take matters into her own hands and make an appointment with a derm here herself.
Kinzz, I'll tell her about the T-GEL shampoo and ask her to speak to her doc about it and see what he says.
Re: pimples on scalp/hair loss
how old is your friend? I know someone had this problem of pimples on the scalp when she hit puberty. It was the hot weather too that made it worst. That was for 6 months though. She was prescribed some internal medication to get rid of the problem... and was fine soon after.
It has nothing to do with how many times you wash your hair - the most important thing is to keep your scalp/hair clean AT ALL times.

She is 21, will be 22 in a few months InshAllah.
I think she is going through late puberty. She had a problem with her face acne last year and was prescribed some anti biotic to get rid of that. Maybe now the problem has shifted to her scalp ...

spoko: that’s kindda very late “puberty” ![]()
I agree with this post below:
AA as mentioned above is also due to hormonal changes. Your friend should goto a dermatologist for this issue. They take care of the AA too.
Re: pimples on scalp/hair loss
please tell your friend to start taking Hair and Nail vitamins from PHYTO. She can purchase them from sephora. Phytophanere Dietary Supplement - Hair & Nails $50.
Re: pimples on scalp/hair loss
misty is right, it sounds like bad case of foliculitis. she needs to see a dermatologist pronto. the condition can get worse...the hair loss could become permanent.
fayax, i disagree, going bald for men is not an issue in general, but if the head is covered with pimples u cant do much, cant really shave the head, and even if you do or buzz it very short, it looks very bad. so even for guys who have foliculitis issues seeing a good dermatologist is important, it can take a while to clear up.

Selsun Blue contains selenium sulfide.. that's MURDER for people suffering from hairfall
A fine comb tugs out more hair... while combing.. she should use a widetooth comb and never comb/brush when her hair is wet.
Clarifying shampoo contains heavy-duty chemicals that are once again MURDER for people with such a problem!
She needs to see a doc to rule-out alopecia at once! That's if her hair comes off in bunches..and leaves bald patches.
