Does taking pills to delay periods have any effect on the body/monthly cycle?Does that make the entire cycle irregular?Or will it happen regularly after one stops taking such pills?

Whenever you take a medication that contradicts what "mother nature" intends...be prepared to pay a price. Women are supposed to have monthly cycles, it keeps things going. Shut down the factory and its anyones guess as to whether it restarts when you want it to.

I wouldnt mess with such things...no matter how horrible my period is.
