Pilates

Zidee, I certainly felt it. I do it with a class so the teacher goes around and makes sure we do everything properly (meaning we are in the correct 'C' shape, etc.). In the beginning, I hated it cause I was being forced to use muscles that I didn't know existed .... and I ended up feeling sore for a few days. It was great though. Now, I usually do feel a bit sore if we work on certain areas (legs, arms) but it isn't as bad as it was in the beginning. Also, I do get flushed and all red but I don't mind. :D

hey Mehnaz

see thats the thing… i dont feel that sore at all.. i usually do sit ups so i thought maybe cus my body is used to be me pushing it to its limits that its not hurting…

what other sort of exercises do they teach u? cus im finding this to be a bit too simple and maybe not right… i dunno hmm… im just doing it at home though, i might join something after ramzaan.. do u think its made u lose any weithg (not that u need to!)

hey zidee… hmmm i think u need a holiday.. how long has this been going on for??

Sadzzz .... Perhaps I felt it more cause this is the first kind of exercise I've ever done. :D I've certainly noticed subtle differences in my body ... mainly that I'm able to do more and that certain areas are getting stronger. I also started doing Power Yoga which is also quite an intense workout in which I do sweat buckets.

We do a lot of ab exercises where you have to position your legs in the air while crunched into the 'C' shape. There are also a lot of other leg exercises we do that really work the hamstrings. It's kinda hard to describe. You should check out Stott Pilates which is what we do in class.

thanx Mehnaz.. i'll check it out.. i thought if i could get some other exercises mixed with the one im doing.. it may make a difference..

i didnt feel much change yesterday, but today for some odd reason i feel a bit more energetic.. i actually feel comfortable with myself..

oh yeah the 'C' position... i did a bit of that yesterday.. the thing is in the book it says to do only about 10 sequences of each exercise.. but because im used to doing at least 25-50 and sweating like no tomorrow.. i found this simple... but it seems to have made more of a difference then the normal sit ups and ab rolls..

Sadzzz, we do 100 sequences of each exercise. Trust me, you will feel it when you are holding in the 'C' shape and doing the pilates breathing. :D

Sorry sadzz, I was sleeping all day and didnt check gupshup until now. I dunno abt any other pilates, but I have a denise austin book. I tried it a while ago. At the time I tried it, I was very actively working out, both cardio and weights. And i still felt it. I think the thing is to do the postures right. Its not easy to do pilates the right way I think. But Mehnaz is the authority on it since she actually goes to a class. Also ask your friend if she did any sort of cardio while doing pilates or kept her diet in check. Because these two things are also major factors in losing weight.
Good luck!

walaikum assalam Ira.. no worries i hope u had a good idea..

actually i just worked on it today for the second night.. and now im buggered... im going to be very very sore tomorrow... my arms are already pretty dead... :(

hmm my friend isnt really into cardio.. she's more of a situps and abs person... but im thinking of mixing it with walking.. cus i love that neways :)

yeah i have a denise austin video too!! its pretty tough.. requires too much movement.. haina??

well im just praying i keep this up..

This is the kind of pilates that we are taught except in class, we don’t use any equipment. Windsor Pilates is another good one, but perhaps this will give you an idea of what is done.

http://www.stottpilates.com/ Check out the FAQs section.

i’ve done pilates for a year now, i do it twice a week…at first it was pretty tough even tho i was in relatively good shape then too..if u are finding pilates too ez, u prolly need to get a more advanced tape or do like i do and join a class…i think it rele helps if u join a class cuz then u feel like u have to go cuz u paid n in the end its worth it..

i do tae bo twice a week too, i LOVE IT, i dont rele sweat a lot but it gets u rele energized…its perfect to start the day off!

On top of those i usually run 2 miles every other day.. n on the alternate day i’ll walk one mile
At first its tough to exercise but once it becomes routine its absolutely no problem

I also attend a relaxation class three times a week  it is great after a stress filled day…OMG, its like heaven

^ and i thought i was into fitness....

thanx Mehnaz.. i think i had a look at that yesterday..

i did more repetitions lastnight.. and this time i know its not easy... uff na.. my back was in so much pain... but im all good now.. stretches really help

LP how many hours a day do you spend in excercising? its great to do it but I can rarely afford to spend more then an hour per day these days in the gym!

I think pilates stretches ur body too, tahts why i liked it. But it was a lil boring for me. I would rather be inthe gym (if i can ge time for it) . But Pilates is good for stretching and relaxing.
hmcq bhai i know u r not talkig to me , but I think something is always better than nothing. So even if u only get an hour each day(which is more than i get these days!), u could perhaps alternate aerobics with weights???I am sure u knwo all abt that, i m just being dadi ama :D

It usually takes an hour to an hour and a half....the classes are 45 mins, i go to the gym for those but i do cardio(running/walking) at home n it takes about 25-45 mins..depending on how fast u go...I usually just listen to music while running on the treadmill n its over before i know it..

Im thinking about trying yoga for the abs, neone know about that?? I heard it was RELE tough!

We are offered this in school :n: BORING, give me basketball and hockey anyday…

I love Pilates...amazing work out and great toning and ab/core workout.

I still do some sort of aerobic/treadmill/swimming but pilates/yoga once or 2x a week is amazing for keepign you flexible and in shape...

err iz it only for losing weight? i thought it wuz also for gettin in shape n all?

saw it on tv alot looks pretty kewl, me wana try it too, sigh only if ammi abbu let me
