I’m suffering from really bad pigmented skin as of late, actually, I’ve had it for a while and am noticing no major improvements. The pigment is around my mouth - i had eczema and was given steroids (about a year ago), so I’m presuming it’s after effects of that. Also, I don’t really have laughter lines, but have deep shadows surrounding them - if that makes sense?
I tried about 4-6 sessions of microdermabrasion several months ago- no major improvement, and am currently using a vit e moisturiser with spf during day, I am also trying lemon (with rose water) directly to the skin under my moisturiser before bedtime- though I’ve only just started. Should I persevere? Or anyone got any other tried/tested treatment? Or should i go to my dr, but am worried about him giving me steroid creams again?
Don't use any remedy with lemon in it for a bit.. you should go see your doctor, he may prescribe HQ or other lightening creams for your pigmentation or even a few 'peels'. Continue to use the moisturizer and sunblock though.
Like Gina said if u go to a doctor he might prescribe a HQ cream just to fade those marks and/or peels.. It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 months to sort out..
Microdermabrasion was rubbish for me as well, I spent hundreds of pounds on one of those treatments (combined with a glycolic peel) and apart from itch like mad it did nothing.. Have done TCA peels at home which only cost about £20 but were really effective and made a massive difference.
i'm so freaked out by this while i was in pakistan i developed eczema on my face, i assume it was the heat or something. I hadn't had eczema since i was a young child and that was on my arms. anyhow i have been deadly scared to use steroids on my face as my doctor prescribed because my skin is getting thinner and lighter. I have been taking zinc, using vaseline and tumeric as a natural remedy at night and vaseline in the day time. I have seen a skin color change and i assume it's the steroid cream. I'm seriously becoming depressed about this bc the skin discoloration is embarrassing but more so that i haven't found a safe way to control this new skin condition. I will say that my skin is responding much better to vaseline then the steroid creams with hydrocortisone.
So gina i wonder when i do get this condition under control and my skin is healthy wouldn't a chemical peel kind of start it up again or irritate already thin skin or do they just apply it to the rest of my face that wasn't thinned out by the steroid creams? are there natural things I can try at home once my skin is back to normal? also can you recommend a thick foundation that won't budge all night. I have a wedding to attend this weekend and i'm worried about pictures and such with two different skin tones and i can't fuss with touching up my makeup at the party. I have been thinking of dermablend but it's pricey but any other brands i should try to get my hands on?
SweetLiL, don't opt for a strong peel.. gradually build-up. Begin from the mildest (lactic) then shift to glycolic/salicylic etc. Do make sure that you've seen a dermatologist though. Usually a derm would apply the peel only to the pigmented area to 'even' it out..
A good primer will help keep your foundation in place and so will a heavy-pigmented one like coverderm.

ya i wouldn't trust anyone else to do a chemical peel and my derm knows my full situation so i'm just more comfy with that but she's surprised the natural remedies are responding better than the prescription ointments she's recommended.
i use the green photofinish from smashbox is there a better primer?
Will stop using the lemon – and insha’allah make an appointment with my dr.
Re: microdermabrasion – I was really disappointed after forking out quite a lot of money, especially as my sister who had really really bad skin, had a few sessions with a peel – her skin was amazing after the treatment.
The notion of TCA peels - or any peels done at home - sounds too scary :(
Microderm is as good as using a micro-fine scrub such as The Body Shop's micro-refiner. Peels may sound scary but they actually aren't. Your derm will start you off with the mildest one and lowest in strength. He/she she will observe (closely) for any reaction or redness during the peels and neutralize your face. Just don't forget to use a high factor sunblock at all times!

I have the same problem around my mouth. I have tried mild peels including glycolic(80%) and salicylic (20%) and hydroquinone but they haven't helped. Essentially the spots fade with the HQ and the peel, but then become dark again DESPITE me using sunblock everyday and reapplying mid day... ANNOYING
Your derm shouldn't have prescribed salicylic of your concern was pigmentation.. some derms even prescribe Retin-A along with HQ. You also need to rest your skin before you can apply either retin-A or any HQ cream after a peel. What percent HQ cream were you using doree? Did it have an inbuilt sunblock too?
dear your mirror is a reflection of what going inside your body systems , its may be due to iron deficiency, any sort of vaginal secretion known as infection leucorhea, stomach lining issue.with peel it solve timely but you will got it again .consult your derm for a proper appointments and have some tests of Hp, LFt's or RFT whatever your derm will sugest you when the problem will solve those scars will definitley disappear forever.
