Love for Afridi aside, i think this Pieterson dude is gonna give Afridi a serious run for his money. Your opinion?

pietersen can only bat and can't even catch cold if his life depends on it. afridi is a handy bowler and excellent fielder. look at warne, despite taking 40 wkts in the series, everyone will remember him for dropping that dolly of a catch by pietersen.

Pietersen has the technique to handle test match bowling. Afridi, unfortunately, does not. People used to compare Jayasuriya and Afridi the same way, but to be honest, the comparison is unfair. Jayasuriya and Pietersen are test level batsmen. Afridi is not.

I’m sorry i got a bit carried away while posting and i only had batting in mind. However Black Jack Sensei does make a good point that Afridi is a good all round cricketer. He’s a cheetah in the field and can bowl a full decent 10 overs, often hauling a wicket or two.
As a pinch hitter/batsman though i think pieterson still wins hands down. Either way good luck to both of them! :k:

I think it would have made more sense if we were comparing afridi with flintoff since they both are all rounders. And definitely Flintoff is a much better allrounder than afridi. There is no match between them in test matches. In ODI yes there can be a possible comparision.

Pitersen has a brain, Afridi does not. Both situation have their advantages though.

Look at the following string of scores.........
70 vs SL (stumped)
46 vs Aus (run out)
59 vs Ind (caught)
58 vs Ind (stumped)
122 vs WI (caught)
43 vs WI (caught)
What's the common thing here ? These were made by Shahid Afridi in test matches. Not only that, but they are from successive test matches. These are basically his last six successive second inning test scores and only one of these scores were made in Pakistan. The rest were away games.
Even Inzamam'd be proud to have these kind of scores in third and fourth inning of test matches, let alone Pietersen.
Here's Shahid Afridi career average in second innings of test matches

In 2004-2005 season, his test avearge was about 42 (418 runs in 6 tests : 10 innings) and looking at second innings, it was more than 60.
Afridi is a far better test match player then he is as an ODI player. My purpose of listing the stats is not to say Afridi is BETTER than Pietersen. Rather it's to point out what kind of amazing performance Afridi has had in test matches and how unnoticed it has been by most.

IMO (and thats just mine) when Afridi gets going, no one (maybe Gilchrist) comes close to his devestating level. Pieterson is a fabulous player and so is Flintoff but Afridi forgets to hit the ball on the ground and deals just in sixes.
I really like Pieterson though. He is arrogant but he has the talent to back that arrogance.

Afridi is a freak among freaks like gilchrist and sehwag. He is in his own league. He can destroy anyone, anywhere anytime. Kinda like jordan of cricket...only less consistent. One word: A monster. Plus I think Razzaq would be the better allrounder out of both teams. Secondly, the best batsman on the field between two teams would be inzimam. :) ofcourse my opinion but still. :)

Obviously Afridi is a better all-rounder than Pieterson but that doesn't necesarily make him a bettter player. With England's bowling attack, i'd take Pieterson over Afridi any day of the week. Heck, i'd pick Pieterson over Afridi even with India's bowling attack. Pieterson is a stud batsman, whereas Afridi's bat is just as reliable as Pieterson's hands when the ball is up in the air. For what he is, a batsman, Pieterson is a far superior player than Shahid Afridi.

I would pick Pieterson just because he is an ex-pat South African :) He is taking over for Klusener who basically retired.
