i got my dress from a non-designer, and i'm so thin(or used to be at that time hehe-all the excitement made me add on weight), that the darzee thought i wasn't normal lol, but my walima dress fits like a glove but my wedding one doesn't cuz my nano thought i gave the wrong measurements too and she adjusted to what she thought was normal. i was soo angry..! but i love both dresses masha'Allah. designer or no designer, if u like it, that's what counts, and in my opinion. either way it can come out reallly good or reallly bad or anywhere in between.
lol I think we are underestimating darzees alot over here....lol.... It really depends what kind of darzee you have. If you consult a good darzee then you won't just get a dress filled with kaam and no fit etc. The darzees that are good, do give you the time you need. This is my experience.
Like someone else said that designers don't stitch the dresses themselves. They design and then make sure that the darzi and the kaam wala gets it done the right way.
I don't think it is the fitting that make a difference. I got all my wedding clothes made from a darzi that was the best, but charged a lot. He wasn't a designer darzi, just had talent. Designers main thing is the kapra they provide, which I noticed is elegant compared to going to anarkali. Secondly their designs are really sophisticated....the kaam vs the color combo.
i definitely agree there's a difference between designer wear and non-designer wear ..on average. this is not to say that there are good darzis and bad designers out there in which case the former is obviously going to prove a better choice but on average the thing with designers (again assuming its a good designer) is that they have a more broad sense of fashion, cut, style, color, kaam and fitting. A good kaam wala may be highly specialized in one aspect e.g. he may do a fantastic job with the kaam. similarly, a good darzi may give you a great fit. However, a designer who went to fashion school will have an idea of how the whole dress will come together, which colors will complement the kaam, what cloth will work with the kaam, how the dress should fit and flow etc. They might also know these good kaam walay and good darzis and essentially they are making them all come together. Designers also have a better sense of trends.
True, the whole process of going through a fashion school and stuff makes a difference. Basically designers are the ones who introduce new trends, colors, styles etc. Rest of the world acts as their slaves... :D
yes! hehe i am not saying that designers are better or dazis are better but i am saying that some things the designers can provide are hard to find yourself. I am REALLY happy i went with nomi
true.. on one hand you have individuals who are designers after going to fashion school for years and studying all aspects of it and on the other, you have darzis who have learnt from experience but even the best ones will still copy a designer's style because it looks good.
