Im going through some very private personal problems, and had to take some time off from work because of it. Thereby I had to tell my boss that something was up. Now my bosses are all persistently commiserating and say things like we can go for coffee if I want to talk about it, or send mails ke batao ke ki hoya.
now I appreciate their concern but i do not want to tell them whats up and its embarassing for me to even admit theres something much less tell them what it is. how do i get out of it without being rude. i have a rude-ish/reserved image as it is, plus I’d feel bad since they’re being so nice.
ravage bhai, while i pray that your problem get solved soon, remember that ur bosses need not necessarily be genuinely interested in being shoulders-to-cry-on.. their concern could also rise from the fact that u are taking time off work-time.. so i wud say work for the regular hours and worry abt ur problem while away from work.. that way u can avoid needless interest from ur bosses.. anyways, good luck for everything..
you might be right as far as my bosses motivation is concerned, but i still have to face that 'you wanna go for coffee' talk. i dont know how to get out of it :\
Unless you are taking time off at some critical part of your project timeline (or something like that), everyone is entitled to regular PTO. Infact recommended. Having said that, most bosses generally try not to be too nosy about staff's personal issues, especially if the staff is unwilling to volunteer such info on their own. Your boss may be genuinely concerned. Make him take you for coffee and talk about Super Bowl.
Faisal, Im on PTO right now. I wouldnt have guessed that he would infact be persistent about it after the initial mail, but he doesnt seem to take a hint.
anyway, I might take him up on the coffee offer, and have hinted that Im not interested in talking about this, hopefully he'll pick up on it.
aalhan, I'm actually back from my 'vacation' in my room. this is all my awkwardness of facing them.
Ravage, why don’t you tell us what it is, so we can give some good suggestion… if you don’t want to make it known, you can PM me, and I will post the problem here anonymously..
maybe your bosses are interested only because they dont wanna get sued. HR in corporations take Harrassment, racial and discrimination issues pretty seriously. Just another angle.
