Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
OMG Zareen thanks for this!! i always wondered and never got the answer… i just got NC30 in Moisture cover concealer(my first concealer ever~!) but i think i had to get it in NW but it looked orangy so thought it might make me look darker and i dont want that cus im a girl with colour ALREADY lol plus i feel NC30 is lighter for me as i normaly wear NC42 i only got NC30 cus i have heard it needs to be 2-3shades lighter and i saw a girl darker than me using NW20 on some tutorials and i was like ok i need to get really light one…![]()
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
I did some research on concealer recently! According to what i found, if you plan to wear concealer with foundation, then it should be one or two shades lighter, if you plan to wear it by itself, then it should be as close to your skin tone as possible.
Also, yellow based concealers are what go best with with south asian skin apparently. Er, did that help?!
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
There really are no “rules” when it comes to makeup. Do what works best for you. With foundations and concealors, I always get “matched” at counters…I get samples if possible and then look at it under natural light. I’m NC42 and use Select Moisture Cover concealer in NW20. I can wear the concealor under my eyes with or without foundation and it blends in either way.
So your foundation “match” is NC42 but you bought NC30?
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
I had the same issue for like a good while! Im NC38 in foundation and I use NC42 for concealor. For some reason lighter concealors dont work for me, esp for my under eye circles. I tried using lighter shades for concealor on my eyes and they end up looking really gray and baggy as I am olive toned. NC42 is working for me cause even though it looks dark but when I apply it, it blends with my foundation and gives a natural look and and my eyes dont dont gray and come out bad in pictures(lighter shades of concealor always come out bad in pics for me). i think it depends on your skin color and your skin type. Maybe lighter shades of concealor for for people that have fair skin tone.

Makes sense. I bought mine according to this very logic!

I was thinking the same :D.

^ This! I do think if you are wearing a concealer alone then same match would be best to go with. However with a foundation on, you should get a darker one cuz otherwise it wud end up looking grayish on you.
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
My foundation colour is NC37 and concealer is NW30. It works our perfectly for me, I had both of these tested out at the MAC counter on me, before buying.
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
I usually wear concealer on its own so I buy it in the shade that my skin is. I have a mac concealer in nc30, but I am an nc25...I think this concealer is way too orange for me, but they don't do an nc25 concealer! Does anyone have any advise on whether I should buy the nw25 concealer instead? Will it work for a desi skin tone?
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
^ I was told by the MAC artists that I need an NW concealer, even though my foundation is NC..
P.s. It doesn't look orangey AT all.

My foundation color is NC but concealor is NW.
The only way for you to find it if it'll work for you is to go to the store/counter and try it out. :)
Re: Picking the right shade of concealer
I'm a MAC NC20-25 but my concealer (for both under eyes + spots) is NW25. It's a bit darker (a bit too peachy/orange) but I notice it covers really well if it's buffed on lightly with a fluffy brush. I'm on the hunt for a better under eye concealer though, the MAC studio finish is great for spots/imperfections though.
