KARACHI: AN aviation world record was set today when a PIA’s Boeing 777-200LR touched down at Britain’s biggest airport.
The Boeing landed at Heathrow in west London at around 1.25pm having flown non-stop in an easterly direction for 23 hours from Hong Kong.
By the time it touched down, the plane, piloted by American captain Suzanna Darcy-Hennemann, will have flown around 12,000 miles - the longest-ever non-stop passenger aircraft flight.
Guinness Book of Records officials were at Heathrow to verify whether the plane has beaten the existing record of 10,823 miles achieved by another Boeing 777.
Darcy-Hennemann and her co-pilot Frank Santoni have 35 passengers on board, including Boeing chiefs and representatives of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) which will be putting the 777-200LR into service next year.
After taking off from Hong Kong yesterday, the plane flew over the northern Pacific and was then taken over the northern part of the USA before crossing the Atlantic towards Heathrow.
As well as becoming a world recorder breaker the plane set revolutionise long-distance air travel.
What do I mean? I meant nothing!
Look closely, it is a copy-paste post. Sort of like FYI kind of article. PIA is not really a financially strained airline anymore, I opine. Just shared this news article as I have been dreaming about flying to Pakistan non-stop. Saving four hours out of the total traveltime would be great. plus, PIA is, indeed the launch customer for this kind aircraft.
Exactly! Boeing 777 is made by “Boeing” and not PIA. Also, no where in the actual news does it say that “PIA’s” Boeing flew for that long. They are planning on buying 'em but haven’t bought any yet.
The title made me feel good for a sec that finally PIA has set some kind of record also
