PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

salaam dosto,

i’m watching Dunya News and i’m seeing employees of PIA agitating against Privatization of PIA. They have locked out of the PIA offices across Pakistan and they are threatening to go on FULL strike disrupting flight operations.

PIA travelers, who plan to fly today or tomorrow or in near future, are advised to contact PIA or call the airport ahead before heading to the airport. passengers are complaining that they are NOT getting any help from the national airline.

Haroon ur Rasheed saaHib said on his TV program “Khabar yeh hai” that PIA MUST be privatized before billions more are lost. he also said that spending more to upgrade the airline before putting it up for sale is nonsensical because it will ONLY add to more losses.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

Thats the union playing its ugly games. And yes PIA should be privatized no question. i hope it gets settled down without problems to passengers

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

After these tactics and how each govt treats it like a londi, I am now increasingly in favor of just letting it go. At the minimum, many departments can partially be privatized first.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

They are coming off like crying babies.
Privatization is the only way to go if they want to have jobs at all.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

PIA employees and the Government are eyeball-to-eyeball.

the Government has legislated PIA as an 'ESSENTIAL' service in response to the Employee Union's threat to stop PIA's operations at 7 am if their demands aren't met.

Rangers and water cannons have been deployed at Pakistani airports. it's 7 am in Pakistan right now and one flight from the US has arrived and no actions by the PIA employees have been taken.

the Government has said, "those who resort to strike actions, will NOT only be arrested but they will lose their job". this is an stern warning to the employees.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

**LATEST

there has been a confrontation between the striking and agitating PIA employees at Jinnah Airport in Karachi. **one employee has been killed by a rubber bullet fired by the Rangers. one more injured employee is in grave condition while 9 others are hurt in the firing. 5 union officials have been arrested.

initially, water canon was used to dispersed the striking employees but it soon ran out of water. they were allowed to set up the picket line at the old [Hajj] terminal but they tried to march to the Jinnah terminal.

PALPA [the pilots' association] has sympathized with the employees but refused to join them in the strike.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

Yea thats the reason the “peoples unity” wins every union election in PIA. Its flooded by people who are incompetent enough to even outside the building, yet they get executive ranks.
In 2006 there was a problem with my back home ticket and i had to spend a day in PIA HQ where someone asked to come over to get the ticket done. Whole day, I never saw even a single person doing work or even talking about work. All they were talking about was BS politics within the org.

Re: PIA employees LOCKOUT offices

If you know you have a family that depends on your lone earnings, you better show up to work, and work even if you're the lone ranger in the office. Anyone who feels secure in locking up the office, and posturing either has a backup in case of getting fired, or does not care for the consequences.

If the flights are disrupted, the involved should be fired. If I was fired due to direction of the Union leaders, I'd be looking to them to pay my utilities until I found another job.
