Doctors recommend physical activities like different sports, including basketball, tennis, swimming, martial arts, etc., for kids to ensure proper growth and development, as well as to prevent obesity and other medical conditions. Having kids invloved in at least one sport is a good idea. Sometimes too much can get overwhelming and confusing.
I spoke to 10 desi families with a total of 25 kids, over the past few days and found out that only 2 girls and 3 boys are into an activity.
need to add more common reasons;
- most of parents believe that mental activity / time spend in a classroom within the school is what kids need more ......... although physical activity is equally important for kids , it accelerate their metabolism so they can do certain tasks in a better way
- lack of backyard / patio big enough to play within yr home or apartment
- parents themselves don't do any physical activity hence kids gets no motivation
I strongly believe it is the parents who don't do alot of physical activity pass their genes onto the next generation and hence their kids turn out the same way. A working mother with a house and a child to support will, in general cases, tend to be more active and kids learn to respect their mothers who are a part of working-class women. They feel the need that their parents are working hard to make ends meet and this raises the respect level in them.
The physical activities of kids, sometimes kids are born and brought up very moody with mood-swings and they are easily rendered in the environment they are brought up in. It is the society in which you raise your kid that affects their behavior and attitude. If there are families around with their own kids where your child can go and mingle with, more friends he/she will make and all the more reasons to do more physical activity. Although the development such as swimming, that comes from the encouragement of parents. Sometimes parents don't want to put too much on their kids (conservative parents of sorts) and that itself restricts their child to go any further. Also, modern generation is a lot focused on things that are outside of school. There needs to be a bridge between parents and children, from that generation, parents, to the next generation, kids. There needs to be a balance between sports and school, and parents need to realize that. And that is where they come in, to strike the right balance and to encourage their kids to go further.
