so how exactly do you organize your photos? Do you print them out or only keep the digital copy?
I love looking at the pictures print out so I get them printed out with coupons, deals etc but I have them all over the place, in the boxes, in the envelopes that we got them in, in photo albums with random picture, and a suitcase full of photos because I had no room to put them else where… Now. I just want to organize them!
We have photo saved on main hard disk and backed up on extrenal drive. I know that still is not safe as I accidentally deleted about 3 years worth of pics when older daughter was 3 (so all her collection is gone except for about 75 pics that we printed for her nana/nani).
I am thinking of upgrading my icloud so my pics can be stored online.
I turn them into photo books. It is such a neat way to keep your photos and they make excellent coffee table books.
There are many online sites that do it and you can get great deals through Groupon.
^bebo are there any photo books where you can add more photos as you go along? Kinda like photo albums that come with binders you can increase as you take more photos.
I have been thinking of getting photo books but am scared that I will just increase my books collection.
These sites provide you with programs which you can download. They have different templates to choose from and you can add and edit as you go along. When you are satisfied with your creation then you get it printed.
There is of course a price difference based on number of pages. I guess 100 is standard and you pay more for additional pages. But in 100 pages you can have a lot of pictures.
It is a good idea to start with a theme of your book because it is easier to categorize you photos based on a theme.
We have over 5000 pictures on our desktop too and to be honest I don't know how to manage them either. We just categorize them into folders according to dates. The really nice ones I get printed and put them in pretty frames around the house.
Most of the digital photos are on drive that is backed up every-night to another drive in the machine and an external drive (scheduled backup without any human interaction). I normally burn DVD after every 2-3 months. So we have 4 copies of each photo. End of the year, I move all Zipped photos (of that year) to my live server for additional backup but I started that only 3-4 years ago.
As for managing the photos, I found Picasa (by google) the best software. With 1000s of photos already indexed, it correctly identify's people in newly added photos 90%-95% of time.
