I always feel I look bad in pictures. I like how I look in the mirror and do get compliments but when I see myself in pictures, I just be thinking YUCK! Are photos a true representation of a person’s appearance in the eyes of the others? Are you photogenic or not? Any tips to look good in pictures or even feel confident?
Re: Photogenic.
I know some photogenic ppl, but that just means they look stunning in photos not in real life. which is a two edged sword in a way.
Sometimes when we dont like our self in photos it's because of how we're feeling or it's what we feel are our physical "faults" are or because of our insecurities with our feature .Reality is we don't see our face the way others do everyday,so when we take a picture there is some what of an expectation to look better than what we do normally.
I had a bride once who refused to smile in any picture because she felt she didn't look n"pretty" smiling. And her entire face lit up when she smiled -it was like a different person was infront, so took a few candids and showed them to her. once she saw that she did look lovely she didnt have a problem smiling. IMHO if girls heard certain comments about their physical beauty etc specially growing up, it does effect you. Same reason when everyone tells a bride she's looking lovely in her dress and she says"but this isn't what i wanted". It doesn't matter how others see her, she sees herself as not looking pretty in that colour/design.
Re: Photogenic.
Tips:
1.)Get someone ur comfortable with to take pics of you. Your friend/sister anyone who you can be urself with.
2. Very Important: Don’t look at the LCD & review your pic immediately after ur friend has clicked it. Unhappiness starts from here
If ur laughing/having fun just let it be, leave the analyzing for later.
3) wear clothes that you feel confident/stunning in.If u feel good u’l look good too.
4) what’s your’e best feature in ur opinion? Eyes? Lips? Do make up accentuating that feature in a bold way when ur going to have photos taken.
5) stop living in ur head- Tell that critical voice to go- on vacation. ![]()
6)Unless ur very petite , angle ur body away from the camera. See red carpet photos, all the actresses pose identically because it flatters their figures & the dresses. (again point is to see how it flatters the figure, not to compare ur self with them!)
- Here a tip/trick I do when I need some straight on shots of clients looking directly at me & not freak out about how they are looking.I pick any any odd number and tell them to count till there call it out loud. They are so focused on the number they don’t know when i’ve taken their picture. It works wonders because their eyes have intent even staring head onto a camera.
Pics using this trick: See the eyes.

^The same person giving different expressions from her eyes which is pretty hard if ur not a model/used to posing alot. By the end of the shoot she didn’t need any tips/tricks because she felt comfortable enough to pose & look straight on to camera. Full Post here.
Once you’ve conquered some of this stuff , do professional photoshoot. See if u still feel the same way.
Hope this helps. ![]()
