Does any one have phobia of blood, needles, veins etc? Is there a way to get over them? I have passed out 3 times after having blood drawn, and it’s not the pain that scares me. I mean I am so scared that I can’t even read a medical article without feeling sick nor can I watch anyone else bleeding or having any surgical procedure. What do I do ??? How will I cope in pregnancy
Re: phobia of blood, needles, veins
well i have also this blood & hospital phobia :(
Re: phobia of blood, needles, veins
well you just gotta think really hard of something else. i was pretty scared of needles too, growing up, but the nurses i've gotten have been so gentle, i haven't felt much more than a prick. i also don't look while they draw blood. that would really freak me out.
Re: phobia of blood, needles, veins
Try Emla cream (or similar) to numb it beforehand.. This helped with me a LOT.. I used to be absolutely petrified of needles (also passed out once) and altho I'm not totally good with injections now I can tolerate them and not get stressed or panicked like I used to..
Also always tell the person giving you the injection that you're nervous so they (hopefully) are a bit more gentle.. Sometimes it's possible for them to use smaller needles (I've sometimes had nurses offer to do this) and it also helps if you can lay down instead of sitting if possible..

I look away and keep telling myself it's just a little prick.
Growing up, I hated doctors, hospitals, needles etc and I had two c-sections. You keep thinking that at the end of this you'll have a baby!! and that keeps you going.
