Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

Is it really a tradition in Hindu society to arrange for phere after 25 / 50 years of wedding or its just a glamorisation by Indian channels?

Which other traditions shown in Indian soaps are exaggeration?

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

Tension bhi. maaji would have did all punda things, and marriage would have gone for a week and in which I would have doubted like the last time if it would get solemnized or not:D, my parents bought so much for me, she didn't allow anything except basic things and even pitaji sided with her on this, though he never after marriage ever agreed to even a single point raised by her, thank god, I have him to defend myself:)

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

I think it’s their wedding
Anniversary’s silver or golden Jubilee that’s why they celebrate it like this way :hmmm:

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

7 phaiy means 7 qasmen, her phairy Mai aik qasam (promise) hoti
Hai, so I think they repeat them again.

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

This is indeed a custom in south India. This ceremony is called as "Shashtipoorthi" which means completions of 60 yrs. As the lifespan of people in earlier days was quite less, completing 60 yrs of age was considered a major milestone in a man's life. So, when the husband completes 60 yrs of age, we perform the marriage once again, obviously with the same wife :)

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

lols @ with the same wife

Re: Phir Phere, Phir Shadi

Not on a large scale. It is sort of like reinforcing the wedding vows and is usually attended by immediate family and close friends. Not celebrated on the scale of an actual marriage. In many cases the kids arrange everything for the parents. It is also not a compulsory ceremony, just having fun, reinforcing old bonds by celebrating a milestone. :)
