What’s the status of philosophical teachings in Pakistan? How’s the religious, cultural, historical and social situation reflected through philosophy in Pak?
A more apt question to ask would be concerning teaching in Pakistan, after all you have to be literate to be taught philosophy. Not to mention, such musings are those belonging to the privileged and in a country submerged in poverty (like Pakistan is) I doubt Philosophy will really prosper.
I stand corrected http://www.gupistan.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=160283

I'm not sure about this one. Most famous example being Diogenes, whose philosophy itself was that one should live his life with only the most basic of basic needs
If u are impoverished ill educated can not feed your kids are half starved and do not know if you will live to see the following year I am pretty much certain that you do not have the priviledge to think and philosophise.
However if you are a fat lazy upper class male who has many servants and many books to read, you have plenty of time to think and thus are more likely to do so. Wheither they make sense or not are a different matter.
Still, I’m not quite convinced. I’d think that -along with the privileged- the underprivileged can have very good thoughts and philosophies as well. Another example being the leaders of the French revolution: clearly they were underprivileged, hence their call for a revolution and introduction of another philosophy ![]()
although, in case of Pakistan I don’t think it’s impossible, but I agree that the development has come to a standstill of late

Philosophy is an ever interesting topic in the land of Iqbal and Mashriqi. Karachi University leads the way, followed by schools in Lahore and Islamabad.

well i believe that philosopphy isnt on descretion of being privilleged or unprivilged.......we have numerous examples like Nietzshe, karl marx n numerous others who didnt enjoy a lavish life....but they cam up wid some extraordinary thoughts giving a new dimension to thinkers.......also a lavish life doesnt give birth to philosophies...........its not necessary......yeah if a man is free frm all problems he may create wordy expressions of his ideas but it isnt necessary k they wud b philosophy........the problem is dat we r confused b/w wordy expressions & philosophies.....to uss wht ever that is highly impractical is some thing philosophical......4 uss philosophy is last in our priority list ....after doin all if u have time to pass.....than KUCH SOCH LENA CHAYE........n saba this thought basically reflects the real status of philosophy in pakistan......
theres plenty of them i guess but their popularity is limited to those who understand urdu and are inclined to read.. people who were jawan in the sixties/urdu high school teachers/shaireen sadly.
edit.. o i thot this was abt philosophers in pakistan. philosophy kahan nahi hoti. the root of philosophy is discontentment.. not being entrenched enough in whatever you do to break away and think why things are the way they are. aur kidhar ziada ho gi? faraghat, boriyat, masa'il ka perfect combo :K: .
