**The death toll from a politically motivated attack in the southern Philippines has now risen to 52, after six more bodies were recovered.**Police said the bodies were dug out from a shallow grave near where earlier bodies had been found.
The victims were killed as they were travelling to file nomination papers for elections next May.
The dead include the wife and sisters of one of the candidates, and 18 journalists who were with them.
It is one of the worst incidents of pre-poll violence in the Philippines.
Philippine President Gloria Arroyo has declared a state of emergency in two provinces on the island of Mindanao to allow police to search for the gunmen.
Suspicion has fallen on a rival clan that has effectively ruled the province unopposed for years.
