I was going to say the same. It is a lot of work,more like you spend your whole life in education.
And, how about masters? Do they have for more than 2 or 3 years ?

A Master’s degree can be completed in a year if it’s coursework & project based, or two years if it’s coursework & thesis based.
Some students may take longer depending on the nature of their research but more than 3 years is rare.
