PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday declared illegal Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) protests during which party activists blocked the Nato supply route in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and forcibly stopped and searched trucks, DawnNews reported.
A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Malik Manzoor Hussain heard the petition filed by local trader Haji Lal Mohammad against the forced inspection of Afghanistan-bound cargo trucks by activists of PTI and its allied parties.
During the hearing, the court said the government should ensure the protection of human rights and freedom.
Moreover, the court said the stopping and checking of vehicles during the protests was illegal.
PTI chief Imran Khan has long opposed the US campaign of drone attacks targeting Taliban and Al Qaeda militants in Pakistan’s tribal areas and the stated objective of the protests was to stop US drone strikes in Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and force both the federal government and the Taliban to start talks to restore peace in the region.
He had intensified his rhetoric after a US drone strike killed Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud on Nov 1.
Khan said the attack that killed Hakimullah was a deliberate attempt by Washington to sabotage efforts towards peace talks with the militants who have killed thousands in a six-year-long campaign of violence.
Nahi. This is not around the world story and PTI is still blocking NATO truckers...which is illegal.
It was an exercise in futile. Though the US has been complaining of this blockade and wants it lifted asap, but still I don't think it would affect them drastically.
On the other hand, I would want to see these truckers to replicate their act in Sindh also where Karachi is routinely shut down.
PPP is ruling sindh and even in last govt with MQM support, things werne't as peach so I don't know what kind of nato blockade you are talking about in sindh.
I tried but could not find any details of the case proceeding anywhere in English or Urdu links .
If anyone knew about that , Please must share .

Aren't there instances in pakistani constitution that allow the govt great latitude in times of conflict? Plus, the "deal" with the drones is that pakistan is killing foreigners and pakistanis who are treasonous, so a murky legal basis is right there.

And NATO supply was unofficially continue already in night time under the weak eyes corrupt Budha Lota CM .
As if everything else in the country is happening strictly according to the law, including drones.
Who says , drone are not according to Law , The drone attacks are under an agreement with Mush ,whom Imran supported in referundam and voted for them for making government in 2002 .
