"Pesh" is first... as in the leader.
The name of city "Peshawar" has same roots... "Pesh Awar": Advanced (or first) post or forces leading rest of the army.
Hmm.I thought it was derived from Purushapura.

Yes. Peshwa is a title of Persian origin. Shivaji tried to rename it to Pantpradhan but the original name was deeply entrenched.
