Re: Peshwas
It is said that Shah Shujah had sent a letter to Maratha chief later,expressing his regret over siding with Abdali.

Re: Peshwas
These Marathas had no religious interests but they were just interested in power and expansion.Jujst remember the way their abetted Pindaris.That's more than enough of their vested interests.

@muqqawee

Refer me some neutral source. I'm sick of history written by conquerors.
Re: Peshwas
@arliteer
Shuja ud daula was indeed confused, his mother asked him to make peace with marahatas and support them . He didnt like sunni afghans much but awadh was threatened by marahatas so he decided to join afghans.
@muqqawee
you are not sick of just every conquerers, you are sick of pakhtuns...
Dig into books written by british, they are neutral.
Re: Peshwas
I don't have dig against Pakhtuns, but may be I'll develop something against Afghan invaders after reading a novel on Tarkhan and Arghoon, who ruled Sindh and that was one of the darkest periods of Sindh. :)
BTW, reference to a particular writer and book would be helpful.
Re: Peshwas
Why tarkhan and arghun were darkest periods of sindh?
Re: Peshwas
I’m just going to dig this black era, but folklore of Sindh including phrases like ‘GhoRa Re GhoRa’ all came from this period.
Heroic Struggle of Sindh Against Feudalism (1500AD to 1873AD) This was the second time in less than 35 years that the Sindhi Muslims of Thatta were looted and massacred. The first time being at the hands of the Arghoons when the massacre went on for four days. Soon after the sack of Thatta the upper Sindh was laid to waste again.
In 966 AH (1558-59 AD) Bairam Khan having been retired by the Emperor Akbar was on his way to Mecca. Sultan Mahmood of Bakkar hearing of his intention that like Humayun he may also like to stay in Sindh ordered that the Chahar Bagh at Babarlu be laid to waste.
The worst period of victimizing of the people was during the region of Miraza Baqi. If he heard of any person living comfortably, irrespective of whether he was a relative or an alien, a government employee or a member of the public, he managed to take over his possessions. He confiscated the grain of the poor rural people all through his rule. The victimization of the Sindhi seems to have continued upto the end of the century as indicated by migration of many Sindhi scholars to Kutch, Gujarat, Burhanpur and Arabia and also by migration of leading business community i.e the Memons of Sindh to Kutch, Kathiawar and Gujarat, wherefrom some of their descendents return to Sindh after about 4 centuries.
Re: Peshwas
I am absolutely sorry and no offense meant to anybody to both India and Pakistan but I always think that had Sindh remained untouched(practically impossible,but by any chance)Sindh would have remained as a single nation and we Sindhis would have been living in our Pureland ,without any problem,with all the harmony in place.
(The above is my personal comment only).
Re: Peshwas
Muqqawee , history is not merciful to weak. Instead of writing sad poetry and songs about invaders, they should have fought invaders like raja dahir.
If you ask me the worst rulers of sindh were baloch. They introduced wadaira system, all of the wadairas are of baloch origin.Wadairas kept/keep indigenous sindhis worse than slaves.
Re: Peshwas
I agree that history is not all about humanity. Its more about survival of the fittest, but that doesn't mean that we keep on praising the cruel. Unfortunately or fortunately, invaders time is limited. Time converts stronger into weaker and vice verse.
Re: Peshwas
What's ghoRa re ghoRa?

Re: Peshwas
Ok thanks. That was an interesting thread.
Re: Peshwas
From Maratha’s the thread has come to Sindh.. ![]()
Re: Peshwas
The thread was not specific to Maratha's history. It was about Peshwa term. But its good as far as, discussion is on some historic facts. :)
Re: Peshwas
"Pesh" is first... as in the leader.
The name of city "Peshawar" has same roots... "Pesh Awar": Advanced (or first) post or forces leading rest of the army.
