she was very famous actress and her pair with amitabh a big hit..
she died few years ago…

PERVEEN BABI was (not IS..) one of the most sought after actress of BOLLYWOOD during mid-70’s through late 80’s. She primarily, appeared as a second fiddle or side heroine in almost all of the super-hit movies she was cast in.

Her best were; DEEWAR, AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY, MAJBOOR, DOU AUR DOU PAANCH, DES PREMEE…the list goes on as she worked in more than 150 films and of these—a fairly large number with Amitabh Bachhan!

She and Amitabh, reportedly (rather on a sure level) had a secret love affair—which, she expressed during her days of distress she spent as a forgotten lady of the screen…shortly before her death. She was graceful and did not mention AB’s name—though people knew!

Perveen Babi was a very charming, sleek and articulated women. She can’t be termed as beautiful—like that for Rekha but she had amazing looks and geity… and could dance well (Amar Akbar Anthony’s “My name is Anthony Gonzalves” remembered!) and with perfect steps and movement as she choreographed her own dances herself.

I met her at Bahrain in 1979 when she came to attend a fund raiser for some volunteer school of India on that Island. With her was Dilip Kumar and his wife Saira Bano besides Pran.

She died in total isolation at her apartment in Mumbai…

Quite right ! In fact Mahesh also told me (during last year’s KARA Festival) that he has this knack of making movies based on true stories. He said that his movie ZAKHM was based on the true story of his own mother–who was muslim and her role was played by Mahesh’ own daughter Pooja.

I loved that movie—specially that mesmerizing song;
“TUMM AYE TOW AYA MUJHEY YAAD…GALLEE MEIN AASHA NIKLA”
and I just couldn’t stop praising Pooja for her outstanding performance in that movie…DV of which is often viewed by me…!

n quite right … Zakhm was awsome movie … esp. the acting of tht kid in this song (tht kid is now a star in bollywood movies .. i guess his name is Kunal who acted in movie Kalyug n Dhol)

I must be deaf ! I hear AASHA ! but since you have some proof I cant access to—I have sent an email to Pooja and expect a reply in next two days…she would best decide the conflict between MOON and MOON ! :slight_smile:

You..my friend..are RIGHT ! my daughter just leaving for her home after a family get together on new year eve–says “Abba…you loose…its CHAND!” and we played the DV as well and I heard it more closely!

ENT specialist…here I come for an examination …:slight_smile:

And who can forget her amazing acting in the film "Khuddar" (1982?) with AB.....especially in the song......"Angrezi mein kehteh hai....keh I Love You...."

Funny though---just yesterday night I watched a special program on PERVEEN BABI on SAHARA TV Network! and it was quite nostalgic the yaadein of PB's classic performances of 70's-80's....and that dance on the song "RAAT BAQI....BAAT BAQI....HONAY DO...." of "NAMAK HALAL" and obviously Amitabh there too..........
