Read Kramer’s article in the New Yorker on Hijab/scarf issue in France. Quite enlightening as to the motivations. 99% of adherents do it because of family pressure.

Well isn’t that a rather stupid assessment? I mean the same can be said for skull caps or wearing a cross or having curly side-burns (what are they called), having a Hells Angels biker jacket or an army tatoo.

The problem with the first paragraph is not the hijaban but society or the person viewing them. They take an article of clothing and define them by it. Like i said earlier it is a narrow-mined and stupid approach to any scenerio.

I would like to read this article. Can you post a link? that 99% figure is crap as something along these lines can never be proven and is subjective depending the point of view. Regardless the law is a violation of religious freedom.
