personal hygiene among non-desis

We desis are quick to criticize and ridicule other desis on personal hygiene and pretty much everything else…so I thought I would relate my recent experience with non-desis (goras).

Last month I attended a 10 day camp at a remote location that hosted about 150 people (mostly goras). I will not go into the details about the purpose of the camp. Suffice to say that we were living in dormitory style cabins with bunk beds and common restrooms for 10 days.

During this camp I lost count of how many times I saw goras leaving the restroom without washing their hands after using the urinals or the toilet. In some instances, they did not even care to flush after them. Some goras brought very few clothing with them to the camp (going by the size of their bags) and would go without shower or a dress change for multiple days. Inside the cabin or even outside in public, I found that many goras were far less discreet about farting, belching, burping etc…than most desis I have come across.

I am not saying that all goras at the camp were like that, but generally speaking - I found my fellow desis at the camp to be much more inclined towards personal cleanliness than goras.

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

I agree, there r some who do not wash their hands, i haven't come across them personally but my sister works with a few who she says makes her feel sick!!!

lol i better stay quite b4 mammaof3 comes in..:D

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

folks, personal hygiene is a common sense thing.
a grown teen ager, even a pre teen, can know, what is dirty and what is not, what is healthy and what may not be.

arguments that family values, cultural customs and faith-based teaching about personal hygiene, may or may not be a part of this equation. a lot of time, people just do not care, because they never learnt to take the time and clean themselves, properly and make a good consistent habit out of this.

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

Okay, its not just non-desies. A lot of people dont have good hygiene (sp?). I used to babysit in high school and SOOOO many kids would not wash their hands after using the bathroom. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...I would send them back right away.

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

Hygiene is a personal thing...but what i dislike about the non-desi's is that even when they themselves are nasty...and most of them don't even brush in the morning etc...they have this thing that only desis are unhygienic...

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

*Goray don't wash their hands after using the bathroom because they only use toilet paper and nothing touches their hands. Unlike lota-using desis who might have hand-to-hand contact. *

Re: personal hygiene among non-desis

^ Not necessarily! and its basic cleanliness rule that one must wash hands and there shouldn't be any excuses... be it desi or a gora school they teach kids to wash hands every time they use the bathroom...using is tissue instead of water is much more disgusting by the way.

Your logic is a weak one.

How do you explain some gora men not washing their hands after using the urinals. You know where the hand goes....right ?

Also, I use toilet-paper myself in the bathroom (despite being a desi) and I know that in spite of using toilet paper, one's hand will still touch the toilet seats, the flush handle, the bathroom door knob etc....

I just read an article that “cleaning” yourself with only toilet paper does not fully clean you …A NO BRAINER. A study was conducted on people who ONLY use toilet paper…and it was discovered that they had traces of fecal germs on their underwear. THAT"S NASTY!!!

And I even read about a gora validating his practice of only using toilet paper by saying that people of “other countries/cultures” don’t shower on a daily basis and that’s why they feel the need to use water to clean themselves after using the toilet. Whereas Americans shower every day and therefore they can get away with only using toilet paper. I kid you not!!! A person actually said that.

Now where’s the logic in that?

Even if you were to shower daily…the idea of fecal matter sticking to your lower body and collecting bacteria for several hours…until you shower the following day. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW!!!

It’s funny to hear various races point fingers at each other and try to validate their own “cleanlines” or lack thereof for that matter.:omg:

**
When i was a kid they taught us to wash our hands. I don’t know why adults don’t do that anymore. It’s not my logic, but rather something someone explained to me. **

**
Gee I dont know I thought they have perfect aim and don’t need to touch anything. :hoonh: **
