Came across this forum purely by accident while I was googling for some information online. Thought I’d be able to contribute if I was welcome, learn a little more about Pakistan, its culture and the way of thinking of the average everyday pakistani first-hand, and make a few pakistani friends in the process.
A little about me: I am an immensely proud Indian citizen from the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. An ethnic Maratha by birth ( I suppose my breed needs no introduction ), I have a wide and varying range of interests from boxing to extreme sports to working out to politics and military matters and a heckuva lot more. I am a thorough gourmand, and reserve a particular fancy for exotic food: alligators, ostrich, wild boar, snakes, frog’s legs…you name it. I also take a keen interest in history and music - especially on a global scale.
I hope to be able to interact with you all in a positive and mutually beneficial manner. Having been a member of some other fora previously, and having moderated on some, I have a trenchant appreciation for the layout of this one, and in particular because it is one of the few places online where pakistanis and indians are not constantly at each others’ throats. Ofcourse my participation here is contingent upon the acceptance of all, and if at any time any of the members here feel I do not belong, and that expression is made explicit by any of the mods, I will leave.
Until then, I hope to have some good discussions with you all.
We only send durood-o-salam to our Prophet Mohammad Mustafa(P.B.U.H). Walaikum us Salam to you too brother, you are most welcome here, I pray that you enjoy your stay and befriend us.
There are Indians on this forums too, and very famous ones.
But I trust you know the term 'Durood' or 'Darood' in Farsi 'Dar'=abode + 'W'ood'=love] is an actual phrase. And while it may mean nothing in Urdu other than the invocation to the prophet, the term is a render of heartfelt greeting in Farsi.
May the blessings of the Gods be upon you too brother. Shha No Varuna, and thank you for the warm welcome. :)

Durood word is arabic. I dont know what do we call it in Urdu and I didnt know that darood was farsi nor the difference between Darood-o-salam. I think its the same word so I said that. :) I know your intension was possitive so lets keep this thread positive.
I apologyze for any offence to you :)

Not at all. None taken. I realize that on a pakistani forum, I do have to wear a thick skin ;)
The phrase however is used as a gesture of sincere, wholehearted and profound greeting among people that one trusts in Persian.
Aur bhaijaan, humare aapas mein yeh aap-shaap ki baatein na karna. Aap mujhe 'tum' yah 'tu' kehiye. I much prefer being casual. I find formality.....stifling. :)
Lived the greater part of my life in Maharashtra, and have been abroad the last few years to pursue an undergrad University education. But yes, while in Maharashtra I both studied (did me Junior College) and worked (odd ends for an event promotion firm). What about yourself? What do you do for a living, if you don't mind the question?
No...Technical College..you were close about us though :D Almost everyone in/from Pakistan have his/her mind set to learn business and start it as soon as they are out. :@:

Kewl! What year are you in? triOS is a good institution in its own right.
That entrepreneurial spirit is among our people as well. Why do you think some pakistanis call Indians 'baniyaas' at times? 'Baniyaa' actually means grocer (who're filthy rich in India by the way). The term is actually a compliment! :)
Only the jingoistic ones do. Ofcourse their jingoistic counterparts in India have equally unattractive names for them . But let’s leave that joyless topic aside.
Nice. I hope you get the marks you need to get into the University of your choice. Do you plan on going back to your country or stay in Canada?
of course everyone, including you is free to join and participate on Gupshup. No one is ever told to leave. Maye that happens on other sites. As long members follow the rules of the forum. :)
