I have naturally thick very tight curly hair. All my life I have had the challenge of trying to tame my hair when styling it using all kind of products. For the last couple of years I have been manually straightening it every time I wash it. Each time as my hair is sooo coarse and the curls are so tight it take me about an hour to hour and a half to get it silky smooth and straight.
Someone recently mentioned permanent hair straightening. I’m afraid to get it done as I have heard that it can damage your hair. Also, I have been told that you have to keep getting it redone as the roots grown in curly.
Is permanent hair straightening something worth looking into?
Has anyone had this done and can you share your experience?
Have you looked into Japanese rebonding? In any case, most products/straightening systems contain chemicals (the most common is formaldehyde) which is harmful for humans when inhaled and absorbed through skin. So be careful and get any treatment done in a well ventilated and reputable place.
well i got rebonding done coz my stylist sugessted it as i was using straightner everyday and blow drying she said get rebonding done i was scared but she explained me that the way we use straighters evry other day we do damage out hair so mite aswell get dem done once and be free from using straighters for almost 6 months or more..
I use a hair straightener every other day as my hair is neither straight, nor wavy... they fall in the weird horrible waves category :-p I use Chi, its very good and my hair is not too damaged so far (keeping fingers crossed)
I thought about rebonding and permanent straightening too but then I found out about formaldehyde in all hair straightening products (and dyes). And I'm not sure if its used in Japanese rebonding products.
Formadehyde is toxic, allergenic, and carcinogenic. If you inhale a certain concentration of this chemical, it may cause headaches, a burning sensation in the throat, and difficulty breathing, as well as triggering or aggravating asthma symptoms.... and above all, can cause cancer.
I would rather have damaged hair than have asthma and cancer. Too bad the cosmetics industry does not educate its customers about the harmful effects of its products just for the sake of profits. And we use it all just for the sake of artificial beauty.
