can we offer prayers if we are wearing a perfume
as most of them (I think ALL of them) have some quantity of Alcohol
I have heard varying statements, some say its okay as it is not being taken internally and is not intoxicating, while others say it is not allowed simply because any form of Alcohol is haram.
Also, what about alcohol swabs used for minor cuts and wounds ?
I dont think it is haram wearing through perfume, i think it states in Quran that it cannot be taken for use in intoxication (to loose mind and be drunk). Nothing can be added to your body that makes you loose your sense or control and perfume doesnt do that. swabs for medical cuts... not too sure....its like with medicaines also

err... Are you sure?
I find that a bit hard to digest that after Islam people were still drinking alcohol and going about their daily business, it only started to hurt when they started to come to the mosque in an intoxicated condition ?

Bunny - thanks for the reply :)
Brother this is just a practical eg, of how the city should be evolved through belief and not through any spike or instantaneously.
YOu know today they are de addiction camps for drugs, and this bad habit can only be cured in space of time. During that time, the arabs dranks alcohol like fish and instead they were 3 verses in the holy quran which were mentioned in a space of time, gradually cutting of this habit and freeing Arabia and muslims with alcohol.
Rest i think it says in the Quran dont consume it, it doesnt say dont use it. But different school of thoughts and scholars, have differed on this. As far as i can understand its more with consuming rather then using it.
It is not permissible to use deodorants that contain alcohol from grapes or date extracts. Such perfumes are impure and Salaat with it is invalid.
However, if the alcohol is synthetic, it is pure and permissible to use. Salaat without washing off such perfumes will be valid. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to differentiate between genuine and synthetic alcohol. Thus, to be on the safe side, one should rather prefer using deodorants and perfumes that are labelled as 'alcohol-free', especially when such perfumes are easily available. (Mufti M Saeed Motara; Azaadville)
and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai
The alcohol used in perfumes or deodorants is normally a synthetic alcohol, which is not impure (Najis) according to the prevailing view of Imam Abu Hanifa and his followers. Therefore, the external use of this type of alcohol is not Haram. However, its oral intake is still impermissible except in the cases of necessary medication.
There are many types of alcohol, actually there are hundreds of members in alcohol family. Among them ethyl is the best known and it is this alcohol that is generally used in Alcoholic beverages. There are some types of alcohol that are denatured and are used in perfumes and other cleansing agents. The rubbing alcohol does not contain ethyl alcohol. It is dangerous for drinking and may cause blindness and death. The external use of such alcohol is not forbidden in Islam.
According to the Qur'an and Sunnah, it is Haram to drink alcohol or alcoholic beverages. Even a small amount of alcohol is Haram and it must be avoided. However, the jurists have differed on the Najasah (physical impurity) of alcohol. Some consider it Najas, meaning that if it touches the body and clothes then it must be washed. There are others who do not consider it Najas. There are many jurists who have allowed the use of rubbing alcohol and the use of perfumes that contain alcohol. As far as toothpaste or mouthwash that contain alcohol is concerned, it is better to avoid them, because they go inside the mouth.
maulvi dawaedil, you are mixing alcohol with wine. what kind of ignorance is this. read chemistry and fiqah and come back. Thanks.
Alcohol is just a hydrocarbon class chemical for Allah’s sake, like gasoline/petroleum. It is only in jahil North Amercia that they labeled liquor drinks as Alcohol as whole.
^ bhai please replace the word alcohol with ‘liqour’ or ‘wine’ . So it may convey the right meaning
Alcohol used in spirits, perfumes and washing liquids are not edible, so there is no question of haram and halal. As far as my understanding even wine is prohibitted for drinking purpose only, if you want to flame it for heat or use as fuel there is no bar ? right ?
as long as we are not actually drinking it with a neeyat of getting intoxicated on purpose, it is okay to use it for medicine, perfumes, any other use.. right ?

Please correct me if I am wrong
Yep, absoloutly. As far as medicines are concerned, one would be the judge for themselves. If your intention is to cure your sickness then it is perfectly fine. A very little content of alcohol in a cough syrup/Nyquil or other chemicals in some anti-anxiety pills can be helpful in cure, it should be taken as just, medicine.
Same as cholorophorm, if used in operation theater to give a general anesthesia to a patient, its fine. But the same cholorophorm used to kidnap someone is wrong.
alcohol has to be one of the top 5 hypocracies in islam as well as non-islam. every country (may be except ireland) has tried prohibition only to see it fail. why? because people like a drink...full stop. even the most islamic countries who pass laws banning wine and whiskey have glorious contraband and smuggling in trades. this from a realistic point of view.
even from a religious point of view. much of what everyone claims as right and wrong is made up in this aspect. nobody can prove why who and what was said about alcohol medicine or perfumes...yet they come out in all forthrightness and say "oh yeah that's fine" as if they have read book of reasoning on correct and incorrect use of alcohol....just plain projection
ofcourse this kind of harmless projection of one's own ideas as that of the prophet when extended to a rich fascist such as osama bin laden is what has led to the current mess all over the world.

when it comes to parfumes whether it is haram or not......every religion experts have their own views......
some says its haraam some say its not......as it was stated ....things that makes you lloose ur senses and controls only that will be haramm but parfumes doesn't...and as far as medical swabs are concerned ....if u doesn't have anyother way to go when it comes to save one's life then alcohol is not haram ......
