Are there any good free tools available for finding why my computer’s performance is really slow?

try tuneup utilities 2009.
try their free trial, its a nice program.

but ur best bet would be to re-install windows, and defrag C: drive.

e6 is right, reformat ur hard drive.
U can diaganose till u turn blue, slow computer is not going to speed up. (even if one finds what's causing it, which i'm sure anyone would)
When was the last time you reinstalled XP or whatever OS you have?
I have not re-installed my OS on this computer. I've had the computer for just over 3 years now.

windows gets corrupted every 3 months lolz
just my opinion
but windows does get corrupted and what not even if u have the best security and stuff.
the longest i've gone without reinstalling windows is with this installation i have right now, since 6 months
and i m thinking of reinstalling now cuz its getting slower and slower.
FS u must've gotten a restore cd or something, go ahead, back ur data up and restore it
it'll help it get faster.
If I were to do that, wouldn't I need to re-install everything all over again? Maybe I'll do it, but I'll wait a while.

make sure u back up all ur data, or whichever u need :)
With all the slowness of your 'puter, waiting is inevitable 
I guess I'll do it on a weekend. It would take me a few hours to re-install everything on this computer.
