hi …i am just depressed so i thought i should share this here i duuno where to start i work in a place where my colleagues make fun of my accent the way i talk this has really upset me… on front they will say nice things but on my back they make group and make fun of my accent and style (male Colleagues)even one of them female lady will do parody infront of me if i say how are you? she will reply back in my version of style i found this irritating and stupid i mean okay you can do my parody just once or twice thats fine but hello !!! not everytime its annoying really …my urdu English is not bad but still my accent is little bit different but that doesnt mean you will make fun of me i cant stop the mall staff from doing this but atleast they should understand it upsets me alot :(((( iam not that kind of gal who will fight or argue with them my nature is very friendly sometimes when this lady make fun of me i just smile and say nutting to her still she has no sharm every morning she will start her day with my paroday what can i do it upsets me alot really

^^That's your problem. It's good to be friendly....but there's a limit to everything right? And this includes friendliness and patience especially if someone is crossing the line. When you say nothing....and moreover when you make the mistake of smiling.........it gives the other person the idea that you "approve" of their behavior...and that you might even enjoy it.
Nobody says you have to "fight" or "argue".......just simply be firm with them. The next time she does a parody...don't smile. Instead say "It got old a long time ago. I don't find it funny. I don't have control over my accent, but you can certainly control your behavior because it's not professional and can be be counted as harassment. So, from now on, I'll only respond to u when I'm being spoken to with respect."
I wish I was there at the mall with you...I'd put the idiot in their place. Some people have no class. You teach people how to treat you, DS. Don't even look at her when she's behaving like this....that'll be more embarrassing for her and it sends a message that you won't tolerate her.

^That's a good idea.
DS...call it "racial harassment" when you address the issue with the coworker. Since harassment is an action verb...it's a bigger deal with human resources/management. Accompanied by the word racial...even better as it sounds scarier. And it specifies the type of harassment.

thanks gals for the help but i don,t understand you want me to sue her for what racism ..well is there anything else i can do without telling the management i cant tell the management about all this i got this job recently i have great reputation there now i will do all this telling the management about these people off course i will got FIRED !!! is there anything else i mean without involving the management

You’re just going to be firm with them…using strong words. Words like “unprofessional”…“harassment”…sun kar most laug dar jaate hain. And hopefully they’ll stop their behavior.
First…talk to her. And if she continues to talk to you with an accent…show your disapproval by not looking or responding to her. If it gets worse…then complain to management. We’re NOT suggesting k tum seedha management k paas jao.
If you have a great reputation…maybe the others are jealous of you.

What country are you in?
Nobody's saying SUE her... but complain against her to the management for harrassmnet and racism.
I understand your fear and it may seem scary at first but think of it this way, you don't deserve to be treated like this. Ignoring her will just make you angry and miserable and retaliating in kind will get you in trouble.
If your reputation is so good, and there are no problems wiht your work or anything, then there is no reason for them to fire you.
If they fire you for filing a complaint, well then now you have a lawsuit on your hands. :)

babes u know what i also have an accent... i am often picked at and made fun of.... Ive cried and been humiliated but u know what i somehow get them back and survive in my social circle...
i am also working..
my urdu accent is smwt like english flirty but uhhhhhh i cnt help it... i keep my expressions firm when i speak 2 a stranger and i smile to the slighty aquaintances and smile does the magic to all....
see i tell you.. you shdnt fight back in a aggressive way... cz that's your cliche otherwise aggressive or straightforwardness works too to buzz off those punks..
so when ppl made fun of me in college i gave them rude faces or i mocked them back and later i made friends with some of them with the daily intreaction we had and the rest were left to the wanna be frnds circle or left in never to be spoken again out of my face sort..
and in office... i was mocked and i said.... i speak like this and u guys r Paindoo to the core.... burn ;)
later they were scared to mess with me again and we're frnds now.......
bottom line: deal with the issue, use ur strenghts , whatever they are.... make that woman look bad in front of ppl a little and she'l never mess with u again.... gain trust... befriend ppl its the most comfortable feeling...
