I do know that people are supposed to take folic acid. What else should be taken care of, say 2 months before you decide to conceive..
Re: Peparing for Pregnancy
Do you take multivitamins everyday? If so, they cover alot of essential stuff that needs to be consumed.. including folic acid.
- visit your doctor for a general checkup and blood test (they usually check for things like anemia, rubella immunity, thyroid etc) and update your immunizations if needed
- visit your dentist and get any xrays, fillings etc out of the way
- make sure you are not underweight or overweight
- adopt a healthy, nutritious diet and cut back on junk
- take a multivitamin with at least 400 mg of folic acid or at least take a folic acid supplement
- cut back on caffeine
- no smoking, drugs or alcohol!!
- exercise to be healthy, but in moderation only
- make sure you have stopped your contraceptive enough in advance (like for birth control pills you should stop at least 3 months in advance and use another form to allow your cycle to regulate etc)
- relax and enjoy :)

Re: Peparing for Pregnancy
midnight had a good list of advice. Please make sure all your dental work is taken care of. I thought mine was but i am having wayy too many issues with my teeth.
Also, i was taking prenatal vitamins and extra folic acid as well. No select brand or anything, just buy any prenatals from the grocery store.
Thanks everyone!
How long does it usually take to conceive...I know its depends on person to person...but are there any tests that can tell about your fertility n all?
Re: Peparing for Pregnancy
Kiwi, where are you located at? In the US, they say the normal time frame is upto a year with 6 months being the average time.

Here in Canada they say to see a doctor if you have been trying over at least one year and you are under 30. If you are over 30, they say to see a doctor after trying for 6 months
if you are ttc for longer than a year then usually you need to see a specialist. you may need to go earlier if you have other known reproductive issues or if you are above 35.
Yes, you are right. I wasnt clear enough. Midnight says it below, the way i wanted to put it.
