Peoples distrust in government

As we have seen after the floods in Pakistan, people are less enthusiastic about donating for flood victims as they were during 2005 earthquake.
The main reason being they don’t trust their “democratic” government at all.

Is it true if the government is corrupt then people are less willing to help others affected by disasters?

Re: Peoples distrust in government

Yes it is so. I am not totally blaming this government for the reason but people have heard a lot regarding endless corruption this government has done.

If they say the donation coming now is same as what people donated when an Earth quake hit AJK, then its not like that. People are not donating now because they have enough from this government.

Re: Peoples distrust in government

Why cant people donate through or other NGO's?

Re: Peoples distrust in government

agree with TLK.

can we please get a list of other NGOs started that are working to help the flood victims?

Re: Peoples distrust in government

^ yes, that will be great.

But my question is zara hat ke from the NGO thing.

What I really wanted to discuss was the impact on people's donating *jazba *due to the credibility of the government.

It's not that people don't know of any reliable NGO, there are plenty of them and people do trust them and give to them.

But their jazba is a lot less this time as compared to previous disasters.

In 2005, I saw people emtying their pockets. There were truckloads of supplies sent from every neighborhood of Lahore. This time, it's far less. What could be the possible causes for this change in people's behavior.

Re: Peoples distrust in government

I was talking to my mom about this today. And she said she saw/heard on TV that the people who are responsible for distributing the donations to the flood victims themselves are so corrupt that they're keeping the better supplies for themselves. In her opinion, some organization run by or affiliated with the army might be more reliable.
