People who work/study in London

How do you commute everyday? Is it a good idea to commute from Surrey to Central London on train? What are th best ways?

Re: People who work/study in London

hello hareem!

i take the bus or cycle. surrey is pretty far off, i guess train is the only option you have no?

Re: People who work/study in London

it's quite tricky actually.....to go to London first i need to take a bus to train station, catch the train then change for another train for British Museum. I don't think i'm prepared to do that much travel even for once a week....or may be i can try that out. It's gonna cost a lot of money and time, no?

Re: People who work/study in London

Hareem01, buy an electric bike. There are several European and Chinese brands available. These are quiet bicycles and a nice ride. In the long run you will save money. Transportation in London is expensive.

Re: People who work/study in London

^Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not good with biking specially on roads. Anyway, I have a year or so to think about it, lets see what I can come up with?

Re: People who work/study in London

I drive right into central London but my brother and SIL take the train.. train is not too bad but when they leave their car at the station car park it's crazy busy and can take agessss to find a space..

It takes about the same amount of time (around 40mins for 18 miles) just driving or using car to local tube then public transport from where we live so just down to personal choice..

Re: People who work/study in London

train from surrey to central london is 30-40 minutes
then getting to museum is another 15 minutes, how long is your bus ride to the train station?

Re: People who work/study in London

I would suggest : buy a quality skateboard. Attache your ride to any car moving towards your destination.
When the driver sees you and assume you are a parasite then offer a sweet smile which will explain to driver that you are actually a student, evident from back-pack. I order to learn this inexpensive n fun ride, watch Back to the future - I :k:

Re: People who work/study in London

Between 5 to 10 minutes. hmmmm.....so it comes to around 1 and half hour. I guess I can do that.

Re: People who work/study in London

lolzz…nice. :k:

Re: People who work/study in London

Driving into central london is a real nightmare, and you have to pay a daily congestion charge of £10.

I would not bike it from Surrey as that will take time and the routes are not bike friendly.
Your best bet would be to train it, or bus it.
Bus would take a long time and train is faster, but more expensive,
use this site http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en if you wish to navigate around London

good luck, u never know i might even bump into you without realising it

Re: People who work/study in London

^Thanks arafat. According to that link, it takes no less than 1:40 in duration from where I live in Surrey to Holborn. So in total it comes to around 4 hour journey everyday. I don't know how am I going to manage it?

I'll talk to my husband....he wanted me to take a one year course(classes are twice a week) in SOAS in Holborn just so I can become familiar with the area and public transport, but it seems to me impossible unless we move to Ealing or something.(we can't do that either before 2 years) :(

Re: People who work/study in London

yeh i understand your concern.

i guess it its twice a week i would go for it. My journey from home to uni in central london also took 90 mins and i did it for 4 years, lol. you will get used to it.

good luck

Re: People who work/study in London

hareem, what route are you taking?
sutton to victoria or london bridge is around 40 minutes,
ywice a week could be okay even with 90 mins or so
u can do homework on the train

Re: People who work/study in London

from my place to Ascot and then from there to waterloo.
