I have just another question before sehri. It’s in my mind.
If you are coming to the US and entering an airport, you need that I form and all that stuff with you along with your passport with the stamped non immigrant visa. What if you wanted to travel inside the US using air travel. Do you need that I form and other stuff with you? Also do you need to go to the foreign student advisor and get something stamped too for domestic air travel?
It's called the I-20 and was the bane of my existence. I suspect that the stamped student visa form would not be needed for domestic travel. But you will need your student ID or other photo identification. Granted, I'm basing my speculation on stale into.
Oh thank god. I was getting worried about the whole carrying the whole documents with me all over the place all the time issue. Can I just ask where would I get the state ID from? Sorry I am just so confuzzled and overloaded with information at the moment. Is there some sort of office or Ministry?
You dont need to carry INS card. You take all your documents to your local DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) and get yourself a State ID which is nothing but a non-driving driver license.
I went to the DMV six times to get my CDN license recognized and have them issue a NJ driver’s license and the stupidos wouldn’t do it. Notice, I didn’t say “couldn’t”. DMV employee #1 insisted she didn’t have to follow the same policies that DMV employee #2 followed. And this or a variation of this happened 5 more times. So, I drove on my CDN license for three years.
I swear the DMV lived up to every stereotype you see in the media for incompetence.
Don't worry, while the DMV really is incompetent 90% of the time, you need to be persistent and get them during the 10% of the time when they actually know what they're doing.
Thanks. I hope I encounter nice people who would get the job done quickly. So I take all the documents that I show to the immigration officer at the airport?

Couldn't agree more..!!
Dubaiwali..its nothing complicated...
My sister when she came here went through the same process...(she was a student at that time)..since she was here in the state where I live, she just got the non-driver's state ID....
Later on when she passed her driver's test and got a license, and at that time she had to return her non driver ID...it was all very easy and quick..!!
then after she moved to another state she went to the DMV to get her license from there...they don't do the whole road test and all again ,but just issue a new state ID...well,that took her a good 4 months and numerous trips to the DMV,unfortunately...but it all worked out well in the end...:)
Thank you for the input on the matter. I'll keep it in mind. Why did she have to get a new license though? Can't people who have license from California for example, drive with that in Washington?

They certainly can.She changed it because she just wanted to have a state ID from the state where she was actually living.
