People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

Watched most of the programme, was interesting and the outrage felt by people at the state of affairs within Pakistani cricket was eye opener.

People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

KARACHI: A short judgment has been made following the humiliating defeat of Pakistan cricket team against Australia.

The decision was made after a hearing that went on for 5 hours at stretch. It says: the players power be eliminated; a board representing all the four provinces be set up; Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) be privatized; new constitution be formulated; the overall structure of the Board be improved; divisional cricket be promoted and; the president should not appoint the chairman.

Former skipper Pakistan cricket team, Imran Khan said the President should not be the head of the Board and that the Parliament should not interfere in the matters of cricket.

Director General of PCB, Javed Miandad said talented players are coming forward because of the cricketers’ departments. Therefore, he said, the departments be encouraged.

He said the skills of the players are not being properly made us of.

Former chairman PCB Tauqir Zia said junior players are put behind and forgotten, terming it a major reason for the problem. “This shatters the passion of the players,” he argued.

Former captain Amir Sohail said players, officials, institutions – all of them – are responsible for the destruction of cricket. Only passion is not going to turn things around, as the players also have to run their houses, he added.

He said the Board had so much money that it could give the players hundreds of thousands rupees, but, unfortunately, it did not happen.

Former skipper of Pakistan cricket team, Rashid Latif described match-fixing as another major reason for the current state of affairs of the Pakistan’s cricket. The players involved in match-fixing were rewarded, he said.

He said it is the Presidency that is responsible for the miserable condition of cricket.

Former chairman PCB, Khalid Mehmood said the players used to play with passion in the past but now they only play for money.

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

Program was a nice effort but as always Geo decided to sensationalize it as much as possible.

Some of the points made were REALLY interesting though. When Imran made his oft-repeated instance of domestic cricket, Aamer Sohail had a frank discussion with him and asked him its easy to suggest a change but why did you not give a gradual execution plan to bring about that change? Any administrator would have loved it. Imran got kind of irritated but I thought Aamer made a very fair point. I would love If somehow Imran, Javed and Aamer sohail can work on a plan to bring about this much needed change.

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

*So who gonna implement all these recommendations ?
How can we ensure that it is not again 5 wasted long hours discussion?
*

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

Exactly my thoughts. Who is gonna implement this?

the show was run like a zoo... everyone vying for the mic to get their mostly useless two cents in...

some highlights imo:

  • Imran as usual was the only one who made sense.

his points were:

1) get rid of adhoc setup.
2) don't make changes all the time. just because a captain loses a series, doesn't mean he should be sacked and that we have suffered a lot because of these kneejerk decisions.
3) the chairman has nothing to do with the team winning or losing. get rid of this chairman and bring in another one... and that won't change anything for the team on the field.
4) make domestic cricket competitive. reduce number of teams.

  • Qadir is an idiot. the guy's lack of any education, common sense, shaoor becomes more apparent every time he opens his mouth. his opinion that Imran should be made the PCB chief and he will magically fix everything by waving a wand is about as stupid as it gets.

  • Aamir Sohail likes to argue for the sake of arguing. he talks a good game but he is the guy who selected Tauqeer Zia's bald son in one of the most shameful cases of blatant nepotism in the game's history. imo, heès got no credibility unfortunately.

  • Pakistani ppl in general have no patience. jaisay jaahil, immature, unstable, infantile, reactionary fans, waisa hee haphazard board run without any proper structure.

Imran's expertise were not in executing the plan. His primary job was to lead the cricket team and bring honor which he did.

It is not a one man job to bring reform. Trust the institutions and respect the regulations... things will fall in place. It is called a professional approach not a Pakistani one.

yaar you need to calm down a bit. Calling people jahil and and have no patience, is carrying things bit too far. Everyone and I would say everyone on GS reacted the same way.

You ca call Pakistani fans whatever name you can think of but that doesn't change anything. Fans have nothing to do with changes PCB/management makes.

Ehsan bhai, my choice of words was not the best. but I would like to understand what exactly will be accomplished by making wholesale changes as being demanded by everyone?

once a captain is appointed, be it Yousuf, Younis, Malik, even Afridi or heck even a tree trunk, we've got to give him time. can't ask for the captain to be fired every time we lose a series.

absolutely false.

one thing that has become apparent to me is how much of a say Pak fans have in cricket. when they make enough noise one way or the other... players get into the team or get sacked.. and captains get appointed and changed. this isn't the 80s or 90s. ppl make a lot of noise these days and changes follow.

Sohail Khan was selected after a very good PR campaign was launched by some media outlets, a particular cricket website and the legions of teenagers who post there. now of course, when Sohail did make it to the team and didnèt take a hattrick in his very first over... and looked like he needed some work. the response of the same fans who wanted to drop anyone and everyone to make room for Sohail wanted to see him banned. and where is Sohail now?

a similar campaign regarding Fawad Alam was launched by some "journalists" and obviously knowledgeable Pak fans followed. of course, as soon as he makes a mistake, they want him to stop playing cricket. when he hits a four, they want him to be given the tamgha-e-imtiaz.

only very strong and capable chairmen have been able to resist the pressure applied by Pak fans and sections of the media. if Shehryar Khan wasn't as good an administrator as he was, we would have had 5 captains in his era as well... instead of seeing the stability that we saw under Inzi. every other chairmen has succumbed to the pressure of the public and third class press.

it's good to look in the mirror once in a while. it's all good to bemoan the lack of consistency in the board/selection committee, etc. but are Pak fans themselves patient with the team, new captain and players? have they ever been? I don't see effigies and janaazas in other countries. then why expect the board and selectors to be patient and sensible?

This is a shortcut to show that a change has been made. We actually like to fool ourselves and the public...the real change takes sincerity, effort, dedication and professionalism.

This change is required in each and every institution of the country. Sometimes I wonder why can't we do it.

exactly...

just look at the other thread about Malik possibly being made captain. there are ppl lauding his appointment just because they want to see change and no other reason... others are asking for Misbah... a guy who looked like he would be run out of the country. of course, there are legions who hate Malik. guess what they're going to ask for as soon as Malik makes a mistake or the team loses...

now, I'm a Malik fan and have always been. and I think he's been treated very poorly over the past 1-2 years. but I can't make sense of this change. the guy's numbers are not where they should to become captain. he's going to be under immense pressure. and what guarantee is there that he will do any better than Yousuf? another change for the sake of change...

whoever you make captain, give him at least two years without asking a single question. don't say a word. just be quiet and watch. give a verdict after two years.

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

Does the President; who is also the Patron and Chief of Cricket in Pakistan wants to sell PCB???

And is GEO (JEW) TV playing the role of probable candidate???

No doubt they are killing the name of our heroes and humiliating them...

And their best tool is our ignorant public...the people hardly had any sense of the system...however, their love and affection was true...which was being used by the reporters...

How much is being paid to Yahya Hussaini, Iftikhar Chaudry (who ran away as soon as Imran Khan came), Mirza (encyclopedia) Iqbal Baig, Nasim Rajpoot and waghaira waghaira...

'Cricket ka Muqadama' was a topi drama...just to gave the impression that PUBLIC WANTS TO PRIVATIZE PCB!

RUBBISH!!!!!

Public was in full support of Imran Khanz version which did not include privatization.

God help Pakistan..!

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

this is not written by me i copied it from somewhere coz its interesting n may be its true

thank you for sharing these nuggets of wisdom, heart break kid. they're worthy of being printed and framed.

you have indeed proven how sensible and grounded Pakistani fans are.

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

These kind of discussions should only be held if the recommended changes will actually be implemented. Otherwise there is no point of wasting time discussing things which even we at GS will tell you that need to be changed.

If Pak fans really had any say Kamran Akmal would’ve been miles away from cricket team, Imran Farhat would’ve been sent out of country (to keep away from PCB), Younis type players would’ve been far away from ODIs… many other players would’ve lost privilege of being called cricketer :hehe:

:rotfl:

Thanks Ehsan bhai. Something surely needs to be done to stop this downward spiral of Pakistan cricket. We have been in constant decline esp. as a test nation for a good while now. And I w’d blame both the board officials and players here. The players lack unity, discipline and passion and seem too willing to involve themselves in cancerous tendencies such as groupism and factionalism from time to time. And we saw plenty of evidence of that during the recent debacle in Australia. Harsher punishments need to brought in for players who indulge in such corrupt practices as groupism. Whoever is not willing to co-operate with an appointed captain and/or found guilty of playing dirty games behind the captain’s back should be banned for 1-2 years atleast - period! I have had enough of this. Player power and senior/junior mentality must not be allowed to ruin our cricket. It should be made absolutely clear to everyone that captaincy shall only be awarded to a player based on his leadership skills and not his age, cricket seniority or greatness as a batsman or bowler - though you should atleast deserve a permanent place in the team as a player! Great players do not always make great captains or coaches. Look at the examples of Hanse Cronje and Stephen Fleming. Both were not world-class players but very good captains nevertheless

And then look at countries like India and South Africa where senior players have had no problems playing under a much junior captain both in age and cricketing experience. Tendulkar, Dravid, Pollock and Kallis etc. always seemed happy playing under much juniors like Smith and Dhoni and never made an issue out of it. To their immense credit they never indulged in factionalism or groupism. Such dysfunctional (senior/junior) thinking only seems to exist in our system and culture and this only leads to groupism. Every player in our team seems to be a politician or khaleefa!

The President of Pakistan or Parliament should have no direct say in affairs of the cricket board. It should be run as a semi-private or private organisation with a constitution of it’s own. The president should not appoint PCB Chairman (have you seen anything as ridiculous as that?). We need to replace the present adhoc set-up with an accountable board. Too many ‘insincere’ PCB heads have been fooling the public with false promises of a board constitution for too long. They just never wanted to be held answerable to anyone except their benefactor, the President of Pakistan.

Whether we base our domestic cricket on regions/divisions or departments/banks we must ensure that quality is not compromised and talent is not wasted. Few but quality domestic teams (10-12 at most) is the way forward IMO

The PCB should perhaps have a permanent strong panel of consultants comprising former great cricketers such as Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram (on a rotation basis!) who can advise the board management on purely cricketing matters on an annual basis. It would then be upto PCB how to best implement those recommendations in light of availabe resources and make them part of board’s policy.

And here’s the full program for those of you who missed it. Enjoy it (if you have the stamina…)

Re: People’s court announces verdict on Pak cricket case

Even though the discussion took place in a very tasteless manner, these kind of discussions should happen to start the accountability process.
