People rejoice as security forces take over Matta
MINGORA: Security forces on Wednesday reached the Matta tehsil and took control of the Matta Police Station, as the supporters of pro-Taliban Maulana Fazlullah freed six people detained for “spying”.** People in Matta Bazaar welcomed the arrival of troops and distributed sweets. Several shops were reopened and people were seen busy with their routine lives. The Matta Civil Hospital was also opened for the first time after 45 days, residents said, adding that private schools had also been opened. The schools were closed due to threats from militants.**
People in Kharerai, Totkai, Sen Pora, Shokhdara, Matta Khas and Dheran Kalay were patrolling their areas to block the Taliban entry. Major Amjad Iqbal, who is in-charge of the security forces media cell, said the forces had entered the Khwazakhela area of Swat through Shangla and were positioning themselves. He said the troops were chasing the militants after taking control of the area between Shangla to Khwazakhela and Kanjoo to Matta. He said examinations at Mingora private schools would be held before Eid. Exams in the areas where the militants are still present, will start after Eid, he added.
Cantonment: Asked if a cantonment was being established in Swat, he said no such plan was under consideration. However, he added the army might establish a cantonment if the people of the area wished so. Iqbal said Imam Dheri, the headquarters of Maualna Fazlullah, would be handed over to the locals. He said a security post had been set up in Khwazakhela and experts had been sent there to defuse any landmine or un-exploded material the militants had left. The six freed people, including Mullah Syed Mohammad Ali Shah alias Nadar Mula, were detained by Fazlullah’s men for “spying” for the government. Mula, who was a prayer leader at a primary school in the Shaur Namal area of Matta tehsil, was running an FM radio channel before Fazlullah’s men caught him. A local, requesting anonymity, told Daily Times that a senior commander released the six people on Wednesday morning on the instructions of Fazlullah. One of the released men is from Kabal tehsil and another from Bara Bandai, Swat. The two had reached their native areas, while the whereabouts of the other four, including Nadar Mula, are not known, the resident added
