The same regulator suspended GEO for 15 days even after a lot of pressure from the military. ARY has been suspended due to some comment made by some participant. I do not watch ARY, but the way the regulator is behaving is cementing the feeling that its behavior is partisan and not neutral. This is one channel which is not towing government line.
**ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in an unlawful move on Monday decided to suspend the license of ARY News for 15 days, ARY News reported.
**According to details, PEMRA authority held a meeting on Monday with an intention to teach a lesson to ARY News, for bringing facts before the people. The meeting decided to suspend the license of ARY News for 15 days, in which the controversial PEMRA Chief, Pervez Rathore played a key role.
He voted in favor of suspending the largest unbiased news channel of Pakistan.
It is pertinent to note here that the appointment of Pervez Rathore as the Chairman of PEMRA has already been challenged in the court and he is himself a controversial person to head a key institution.
Here the question rises how can a controversial PEMRA Chief endorse such a decision against a prestigious news channel having huge following in the country, while his own appointment rests in the court of law.
Meanwhile, four members of the PEMRA authority opposed the decision saying that the license of any media entity cannot be suspended without listening to its stance on the issue.
They said that the decision is based on malafide intentions.
The members of the PEMRA authority opposing the decision, included Fariha Iftikhar, Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Zeba.
Moreover, senior journalists and political figures have strongly criticized the decision and labeled it victimization of a media organization for keeping the masses informed about what is actually going on in the state.
These Ganja brothers are the scums of the earth. They must really hate a dictator who freed the media, what these morons don't realise that free media is arguably the single biggest development post their nasty rule of 90s that really uplifted. What these criminal don't realise that this is not 90s anymore, the masses have awakened, they cannot push the country back to darkness of their previous rules. Their blatantly dictatorial tactics only exposes their frustrated and defeated selves. These Ganjas represent everything, but democracy. Can't believe this family has supporters.
You have to give it to PPP for not messing with the media, one has to agree that one of the major reasons they managed to complete their term is due to the fact they did not curb media's freedom despite media being extremely anti government on all fronts. These scoundrels cannot tolerate criticism, but then again, what do you expect from a parastic brood that grew up on the lap of dictators?
This government is so exposed. They have further isolated themselves and created more enemies for their dictatorial behaviour. Even those who had some sympathy for this Family Enterprise cannot defend them on curbing media's freedom. It is unacceptable, and looks like we're not far from seeing a situation when the entire civil society will stand up against these dictators.

In ArY case ML conducted interview to expose rana mashood corruption n tht person mentioned the name of some judge n the same judge ordered the ban on ML which comes under conflict of intetest. Even ML was banned no need to shut the channel.

اور عدلیہ کے حوالے سے جس طرح کی زبان استعمال کی جاتی رہی، اسے صحافت تو نہیں کہا جا سکتا۔ ان پر پابندی ہی لگنی چاہیے تھی، اگرچہ یہ افسوسناک ہے اور اس سے میڈیا کو نقصان ہی
پہنچے گا، مگر جو شخص پاگل پن کی حد تک پہنچ چکا ہو، اس کے ساتھ اور کیا سلوک روا رکھا جا سکتا ہے۔
میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ جس طرحجیو نے انتہا کی تھی اور اس کی سزا بھگتی ، انصاف کا تقاضا تو یہی تھا کہ اے آر وائی بھی ویسی انتہا پر جا کر اس کی سزا بھگتے۔

You are confusing the issues. If the Holy Cows sitting the government has issues with ML, then not only just banned his show, and but completely banned him for appearing in the media in any capacity (it is not fair in anyway, but for argument sake, let's assume it is) So not sure why are using hatred against ML as a reason to justify ban on entire channel which also airs views of plenty of other reasonable anchors/journalists? It makes no sense.
The reality of free media in Pakistan is that it was not the self proclaimed custodians of democracy who gave media its freedom, it was a military dictator who freed the media genie, marking it the single biggest country transforming development that took place in Pakistan in previous decades. Something that Ganjas cannot tolerate.
However, one of the very few drawbacks of gaining media freedom from a military dictator is that he added a legal clause in PEMRA constitution that Army or the ISI cannot be maligned. I hope the readers read more about it and educated themselves, instead of throwing mindless tantrums, because to ban Geo for malinging army became a legal battle thanks to the PEMRA constitution. Even the Kh.Asif who was a defence minister at the time agreed with the ban and pushed for it. So is the reason for banning ARY other than oh I don't like Moby?
