ISLAMABAD, April 22: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has served a show-cause notice on Aaj TV, a private television channel, for airing news, talk shows and other programmes on the current judicial crisis and threatened it with closure.
The authority has also sought an explanation from the chief executive officer of the television channel in person within three days to avoid a legal action.
In a notice issued here on
Sunday, it said that the TV channel had violated the Pemra Ordinance in its news, talk shows and programmes on an issue pending with the Supreme Judicial Council.
The notice said that the channel had also failed to produce a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the external publicity wing of the ministry of information and broadcasting which was required for the processing of short-term uplinking licence.
Pemra has also warned all private TV channels not to air programmes casting aspersions on the judiciary and “integrity of the armed forces of Pakistan,” besides contents which were likely to encourage and incite violence or contained anything against maintenance of law and order or which promoted anti-national or anti-state attitudes.
lo ker lo gal!!* If Geo episode, lawyers’ agitation, Lal Masjid, or creeping talibanisation in FATA wasn’t enough to fill out govt’s plate, opening a front with journalists sure will. :smack:
makes one wonder what sort of monkey is advising the govt these days
its all media hype, CJ case will not have any effect, and public didnt know this guy before at all, thanks to Mushy.
certainly media is far far free compared to democratic eras or BB and NS and others.
just to remind, we had one PTV - state chanell and .... nothing else!!!!!!!!!!
now we have PTV and many many more , almost free strong media. which is good thing,
the spineless opposition leaders, couldnt get support from people now using such issue to get something out of it. same people
who attacked Supereme court, same people who branded courts as Kangro courts!!!
same people have influence on some channels and paper media as always.
what they want? democracy/??? no
they want power. thats it. the problem is they all want to be in power, others can go to hell once they are in power! and then others try to bring down the one in power. and this goes on....
situation will be same
break the current assemblies.
demand for new elections...
and if above happens.
out of power ... blame elections unfair
break the assemblies
call for new elections....
this goes on
THIS is democracy in Pakistan
our parties are not demoractic themselves. no party in the worl would keep same leaders that have failed their governments them not once but twice
You can issue cause notice to media under your jurisdiction, what are you going to do with hundreds of free to air channels now criss crossing the world and Pakistan.
Time for idiots who issue such causes to take notice and display some sense.
this is ridiculous, let media air what they want. In supressing media from airing what they want to Musharraf right now is being no better that CJ Ifti.

u set a pretty low standard for the Caesar. ur comparison reminds me of Mushy's address to the people at Taxila. The announcer went something like this:
"hamaray haan yeh rawaaj hai kay jab saddar sahab ko khitaab ki dawaat dee jati hai to un kee shaan mein oonchi oonchi baatain kee jati hain. Nazireen aap aik nazr apnay hamsaaya mulk Afghanistan pay dorain..aap Iraq mein dekhain..kis tarha bad amni hai..maeeshat tabah ho chuki hai..phir aap aik nazr apnay mulk per dorain..sub kitna acha hai..yahan jaan o maal ka tahafuz hai..maeeshat mazboot hai..yeh sub saddar sahab ki kaawisho ka nateeja hai"
Nice about face for those praising Mush just a few weeks ago for all the good, including the freedom of press and speech that the benevolent dictator had bestowed on Pakistan....
