Re: Pemra and Aaj TV
Good write-up underthecross! :k:
I hope you’ve already sent it to Talat. And even Hamid Mir with slight alterations.
Even today Talat had Imran, one govt minister and shah Mehmood Qureshi, and kept taking calls all of which conveniently praised the guests and the opposition, hailed AajTV and Talat and spat venom against the govt while the opposition duo (along with the very professional journalist Talat) kept mocking the govt. One caller from KSA said he thought Imran wasnt a good person and very casually his call was dropped half way;
And I kept wondering if there’s ever going to be an end to our national irresponsibility and talent to never learn any lessons?
Today there is such magnified opposition and bitterness for the govt, fine lets accept it, what then? who do we look upto? does anyone have a plan (or lack of it) any different from 1988, 1991, 1993, 1996…!? I’m sure no one does.
Do we want the same faces that we see on tv everyday mocking the govt to take charge from the govt? Would some one like Shah Mehmood Qureshi (or for that matter khwaja saad rafiq, aitezaz, bb, ns, qazi, ch nisar ali, and so on) who smiles and mocks the govt when recently grown journalists of less than 5 yrs fame ridicule the govt as if he and his PPP which has had two chances had achieved Utopian perfection, or would ever have any sincere plans to achieve any such thing for Pakistan and its people. Or, a cricketer turned social worker upon retirement, that too due to his fan following and elite mingling, turned politician, who has no plan whatsoever regarding any core issue other than getting rid of the current govt and who has definitely never thought what he’d do the morning after, take the torch from this govt and actually get it anywhere!?
And the bigger question is, has the public ever thought about this with emotions under control? it’s the same emotional misguidance which wanted Ayub against Fatima Jinnah, followed Bhutto against a clearly winning Mujeeb, Followed BB against Nawaz and Nawaz gainst BB and now BB-Nawaz-Qazi-Fazl-Imran-and-what-not against Musharraf without any plans for Pakistan.
And what makes it worse is that the media is an additional party to the misery of the state. It used to be the public, govt and opposition, today it’s the govt, opposition, media and judiciary, each fighting its own battle for different goals while riding shoulders where available and feasible. What becomes of Pakistan, is nobody’s plan. It has never been an agenda.
