“Pehlee Dharkan - Pakistani Film, Media & Arts Festival will take place 13th – 25th September 2005 in Glasgow, Scotland, as a non-competitive showcase for features, shorts, documentaries, music videos and experimental work from Pakistan and the British Asian Diaspora.”
I doubt they are promoting “lollywood”. I went to the site a couple of weeks back and don’t recall any mention of this cheesy tag name. However, they ARE promoting Pakistani cinema, which is a brilliant concept, 'coz with all the great movies they have produced, our film makers deserve better exposure.
Comparisons with trashwood are futile, and festivals such as these can only help in giving more individuality, shall I say, to Pak cinema. And obviously make it more acceptable to audiences back home, they die to watch anything screened on phaaren soil :sigh:
I am the campaign manager for the Pakistani film, media and arts festival…its not trying to be like or compete with any other film festival…its a unique fest which has got alot of media interest…Its the first ever pakistani film festival in Europe so i think the hype is more on that but it will be great if people do come up and get to watch short films, docus and old & new films from pakistan in Glasgow, Scotland… some films will be in english but the rest is all subtitled (apart from the old school films like choorian)…
We have also got 2 exhibitions: ‘Billboard of art’ which is pictures and photos of old film posters and we also have truckart by Peter Grant. I have seen his work and it is really good…its basically the colourful, decorated trucks that you normally see in pakistan. Both of those are in the Tramway, Glasgow…
