Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

We just had an arrest in Florida of a young man, who is a self-proclaimed scholar. He’s 22. Went to college, studied psychology, and then started an “academy”. I’m not sure what the heck this academy did, but I will tell you, he was invited to a gathering to give us all a religious lecture (I found out later, he has done ZERO formal training religiously, and yet people are calling him as a formal speaker!). I prayed NAMAZ behind a frikkin pedophile.

The guy was arrested in a sting operation where cops posed as a 12 year old girl. He offered sex, and showed up to an abandoned house where the cops were waiting for him. About 100 people got arrested and he was the one muslim, that too, a “religious scholar” that has gained speed and popularity in the central florida area as a RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY for the youth. Turned out he was a youth camp leader also , so now they’re tracing those young boys and girls to see if he raped any of them in the past.

I wouldn’t have in my wildest dreams thought that this guy is a pedophile. Socially stupid, yes. Misogynst, maybe - he refused to be near the girls the entire picnic, or to talk to them. And he convinced all the guys to hang out separately too because it’s haraam to speak to women.

Itni mushkil se, we got a group of men and women together in a mixed gender environment since the masjids just do not allow it at all, and he takes away all the guys from us, so we can’t talk to them. (Whole group was young professional singles).

But it’s ok for him to fondle a 12 year old?

So this case reminds me of the Chicago mullah who has a case going for molestation - there are THREE girls who have testified against him, and he still walks, and people are still supporting him in the community.

I am not sure how much of this stems from hadith regarding Aisha (R) being 6 at the time of marriage, nevermind the other numerous hadith that suggest she was in the 15-20 range when married. And I don’t know how much of this is their suppressive wahabbi ideas that lead to unhealthy segregation of the sexes. Or how much of this is just psychological problems that exist from beforehand, which make becoming a mullah an easy vocation - you don’t have to mingle socially much, you can be a social weirdo and that’s acceptable, you have young girls and boys being sent to you to study Quran so easy access to victims, and lack of regulation from the masjid administrations (there is no screening on their mental health prior to employment, and I’m not sure what interviews they go through but these same weirdos wouldn’t even get hired to sit at 7-11, I bet, they’re just too odd socially).

I know there are good scholars out there, and these people muddy them. But why are we allowing people who have NO RELIGIOUS TRAINING to take these kinds of positions in our society?

I have been wanting the president of that organization to apologize for inviting a PEDOPHILE to talk at the event, and I want to urge them to maybe use common sense - if you’re not going to hire this guy at your work-place because there are socially alarming signs and behaviors, then don’t have them come talk to us about Islam either.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

Sad part is we were having a discussion at an event I ORGANIZED in the community, which was SOCIALLY NORMAL, and everyone sitting there said the same thing.

“It is sad. But not surprising”.

They all said this stuff happens a lot in Pakistan.

Both this boy and the Chicago maulvi are from Pakistan.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

Oh and to add to that, this happens months later after ANOTHER young muslim “youth leader” who was in charge of some facebook youth group for muslims (they did events, seemed harmless), was also put in jail for raping a girl.

A friend of mine who is active in the community in the Orlando area told me about that incident. She said she met with the guy, found him to be difficult to plan any events with, again the same crap about MEN AND WOMEN CANNOT MINGLE, SO ALL EVENTS NEED TO BE SEGREGATED, YES I KNOW WE ALL GO TO SCHOOL AND WORK TOGETHER IN THE USA AND PEOPLE NEED TO MEET OTHERS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX TO OH I DONT KNOW MAYBE GET MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS AND BUILD A COMMUNITY BUT I AM STILL GOING TO BLOCK YOU FROM ANY ATTEMPTS…OH BY THE WAY I RAPED A CHIC, THAT’S COOL.

She said she got the chills when she met him. And then later he got arrested when he raped a girl. The girl was brave to report it to authorities.

I dont know about you guys but I am feeling the moderates amongst us need to take back our masjids and religious communities. Enough is enough with these crazies.

Its heidous and appaling..and worst by all means. but are you aware that such are incidents also happen in churches every now and then and there are strong evidences that the upper body of church administrations always try to hide these events:

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

This is exactly why your position as a scholar shouldn’t mean automatic trust.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

But he wasn’t a scholar at all apparently. He had no training and was calling himself a scholar with no actual academic backup to support that claim.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

so, he wasn’t a mullah after all.

This is what happens with prevalence of likes of Amir Liaqat.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

Yes, it happens with figures of authorities in all nations/ communities including religious figures of authority. Sad people support them at times because they refuse to believe that such a “moral” person could do such a wrong. There was a teacher in our Islamic school who is in jail due to rape of a boy but people still think he was set up by the goras because he was a Muslim! Hello, the boy who testified was a Muslim child.

I think people do this because they feel they have to live up to a certain standard because of their position in life and then since they are only human they can’t live up to it. Alas, instead of behaving like a person with normal needs they prey on the weak like children or in case of superiors, their employees.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

This is part of the problem, I think. How many of these “scholars” are real scholars? Like how many of them have had formal QUALITY training in the Islamic studies? Where they haven’t just read the 20 million hadith books out there, but rather, academically studied under Islamic philosophers and scholars who understand the history, historical context, Arabic language, Arabic translation, Politics, Economics, Social sciences, etc, and furthermore studied other religions and other schools of thought to understand and relate and translate the Islamic philosophies so that they can be practiced peacefully on a day to day basis by the layman?

OH WAIT PEOPLE LIKE THAT DON’T EXIST ANYMORE.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

I don’t know if that’s true.
People like that must exist. It is incumbent upon the communities to do their homework and appoint qualified individuals after having checked their credentials and tested them just like we would hire for any other job.
If we fail to do proper background checks then whose fault is it really?

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

If there is such a process in Florida, I do not know of one masjid at least in this state that makes the process transparent.

Where I work, we have two masjids. One small musallah type place for students at the University and the other is a community masjid, that I’m not sure if it’s actually an Imambargh for shias, because we have a huge shia community at the Univ.

No one answers their emails. I’ve emailed them asking to get involved, and no replies. I’ve called them - no one picks up the phone. There are no postings for events, in fact, there really ARE NO events, unless the students post it on their facebook page. They tend to go quiet for long stretches of time because they’re all working to get into medical schools (surprise on that one). Some are actually doing other stuff but regardless, they’re busy in their studies and come up once in the semester to breathe, and their events are for their own students. Ages 19-22 generally.

Otherwise, what they do with the money - who knows? How they elect their leadership? Do they appointment? Background checks? Resumes ? None of it is public. I’m not sure who the imams are even that speak. They may be legit people, but as a woman who sits on the other side of the curtain, we have no way of knowing.

The masjids in south florida are a little more transparent, but still - no documentation of what gets done with the money and how Imams are chosen, and how leadership gets chosen. In fact, been emailing one of the masjids to get on their board as a female, and no responses.

To date I do not know of any youth on the panels, except one guy who I heard is TRYING to get on the board for one of the masjids.

I’m not sure about Orlando and Tampa - they seem more organized, but their websites are the same. Often not updated. No real information. No real attempts at organizing the community for events, and if there are events, they’re not well advertised. If there are facebook groups, you’re on your own to find them, because God forbid they put a flyer up or a posting in the masjid when you go for jummah.

And even if there is some organization, like woop dee doo a facebook page, often times it’s not updated, and there is no transparency about selecting leadership, and no transparency about the money.

I just rely on the fact that the FBI has spies in every masjid and if it’s still running, then hopefully it’s still legit.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

I guess that’s some consolation.
It sounds like the organizations in your specific area need to mature before you will be able to see a transparent process coming out of them.
The only suggestion that I have is to push your way in…organize some ladies event and schmooze…

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

By reading your description of that person I think he hardly fits the definition of the word mullah. And the way you have used that word, it seems like you consider this a derogatory term or are used to use it in such a way.

Re: Pedophilia Molestation among Mullahs

^ If mullahs have proven themselves derogatory, then the term “mullah” takes on a derogatory connotation.

You want people to respect your title? Then live up to standards that demand respect.
