How did you guys decide on which one?
I have been asking around the people I know who have kids.Almost all of the suggested ones are unfortunately a bit far from our home, and I am thinking of someone nearby who is affiliated with a nearby hospital(God forbid if ever the need arises).
So its like I am having to search for someone entirely in my own and not go by the recommendations.
Did you guys interview them before hand?
What are the things to ask and consider?
here's what my friend who is a pediatrician advised me: "you need to ask if they take your insurance, what their office hrs are (good practices should have saturday office hours), how many "sick" visits can they see in one day, do they isolate newborns from older kids/sick kids in the waiting room, do they do their own blood work in the office (very important - major pain in the ass to have to go to office and then be told to go to a lab and then wait for the lab to call the doc and then the doc to call you with results), what are their policies on breastfeeding, co-sleeping (helps you know if their values are the same as yours), and do they have a lactation consultant on staff..."
our pediatrician doesn't fulfill all those requirements, but he's great and was recommended by my obgyn.
Thanks Sahar.
I got an email a while ago and it mentioned a few of the questions you mentioned.
I'd be sure to ask about Saturday office hours or how they can be reached during after hours plus the info for an on site blood work facility.
A few other things the email mentioned was the number of years they had been working in terms of experience, and what their specialty field was etc.
I did ask my OB for recommendations, but he wasnt able to tell me anything .I might just ask again.
