Peculiarity about the English....

Guppies living in England will probably be the only ones who appreciate this, but ever notice how the English are quite possibly the worst winners on the planet?

There’s the rivalry between England and France, though France was defeated in 1815. English people still love hating the French.

There’s the rivalry between England and Germany, though Germany was beaten in 1918 and 1945. English people still love deriding the Germans.

Most of all, there is the enormous hostility amongst English people to Argentianians, though Argentina was defeated over 20 years ago.

Going back further and further, you find that the English pretty much only make fun of people they won a war against sometime in the past.

They mock the Welsh (beaten in the Middle Ages), the Scots (beaten in the 18th century), the Irish (beaten in the 18th century, though they clawed their way back). Let’s not forget the Americans (beaten in 1812), Spanish (beaten in the 17th century and again in the 19th century), etc etc etc.

Contrast that with the only country to win its last war against England, Holland. In the late 18th century a Dutch fleet sailed up the River Thames towards London blasting away everything in its sight, prompting England to sue for peace and end the war. England and Holland never went to war after that, and the English are generally pretty non-committal, if not downright friendly, about Dutch folk.

Argentianians deserve to be hated, if it wasnt for that kameena Simeone my Becks would have won us the match!

Re: Peculiarity about the English…

To be fair you can’t really blame the English for this as everyone hates the French. If you don’t beleive me take a look at this:

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

We hold contempt for those who we can beat, and kind of grudgedly respect those who beat the crap out of our good selves. Its good politics really.

Re: Peculiarity about the English…

holland :jhanda: this isn’t the only aspect at which Dutchies are better … :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Peculiarity about the English…

pehli dafaa sun rahi hoon..:hehe:

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

I love that the Dutch said NO to the EU.

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

I'm English and i'm proud. He he, takes me back to my time at school, the french and german student exchange teachers used to bear the brunt of our "peculiarity". They couldn't handle us and then they'd try to shout at us and speak fast and stumble somewhere across the line and then end up looking as red a betroot when we played up even more!!! I know thats mean..but you can't help it. HE HE

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

^ duh i meant the student teachers, where did exchange come from....Now look who's embarrased!!!

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

Ok, I was wrong. It was the late 17th century that the Dutch defeated Britain.... but look what it means today - Brits are pretty cool about the Dutch, unlike most other countries on Europe....

I remember when we had Argentinian exchange students at school ... we were specifically warned that anyone misbehaving towards the Argentinians would be suspended or expelled!!!

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

my that's a lot of beating for such a tiny lil island

Re: Peculiarity about the English....

my, someone did not really read the thread.

Re: Peculiarity about the English…

Very true. An English colleague of mine often talks about how English are the best in the world followed by the Dutch.

It was ironical to see English support the Americans in the recent wars, as I have found that although English hate everyone else, there is no one they hate more than Americans.

Re: Peculiarity about the English…

So you are proud of what you are born with. What is there to be proud of about in that???

I am proud of what I have achieved.

Re: Peculiarity about the English…
