Peace in Jammu ............finally

Great news… finally

JK: Amarnath Samiti ends stir after signing accord

The two-month-long agitation over Amarnath land row ended on Sunday after the state government and the Amarnath Yatra [Images] Sangharsh Samiti (AYSS) entered into an agreement in Jammu.

The agreement followed hours of hectic negotiations between the four member governor’s panel headed by his advisor S S.Bloeria and the four-member team nominated by the AYSS.

Announcing the terms of the agreement to the media Bloeria said, “The land has been set aside exclusively for use by the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) which, however, would not have any proprietry/title rights on it and shall not raise any permanent structures thereon.”

“The board can use the land for raising temporary pre-fabricated accommodation and toilet facilities and setting up of the shops by shopkeepers.”

“The land will remain in use of SASB according to the board’s requirements, from time to time for raising various facilities.”

AYSS convenor Leela Karan Sharma who was also present at the press conference while announcing the suspension of the agitation described the agreement as “a victory for the people of Jammu”.

Sunday’s agreement supersedes the earlier government order which had revoked the forest land allotment to SASB and assigned the annual yatra arrangements to the state tourism department.

Bloeria announced that the SASB will be reconstituted “keeping in view the provisions of the Act and the past precedents.”

The Samiti also put forward its other demands which relate to withdrawal of criminal cases against various persons during the period of agitation, provision of compensation to the families of the deceased and to the injured and working out of appropriate packages of financial assistance to compensate losses of the transport sector, trade and industry, horticulture sector, hoteliers and tourist operators.

The state government has agreed to examine all these demands in an appropriate manner on time-bound basis, according to an official spokesman.

Meanwhile, authorities imposed a strict curfew in the winter capital where the Samiti planned to hold a huge rally today as a precautionary measure against militant threat.

Army, police and paramilitary forces have been deployed to enforce the curfew restrictions in Jammu.

Re: Peace in Jammu ............finally

Finally, the right thing has been done. The earlier order was also for only temporary structures and for the duration of the stay.

It took time but slowly all the lies perpetuated by the Kashmiri separtist organisations and the opportunist Kashmiri politicians have been exposed. They painted this as cultural invasion, change in demographics etc. Did they seriously believe that they could carry on this charade without any substance?

Re: Peace in Jammu ............finally

"We are Pakistanis and Pakistan is us because we are tied with the country through Islam," he roared, as the crowd cheered him and chanted: "Hum Pakistani hain, Pakistan hamara hai"

No further proof is required than this statement to establish who caused the recent uprising in Kashmir and why it was caused.

That the Sri Amarnath Yatra has always been a great economic boon for the locals of all religions - that simple fact was ignored by rabid dogs such as geelani. But then these dogs have not been concerned even about the thousands of people murdered by the cross border terrorists, so naturally their tails wont turn straight now!

Re: Peace in Jammu ............finally

it will be interesting to see how NC and PDP will react to this...mehbooba has alraedy announced that her party have some reservations regarding the deal..

Re: Peace in Jammu ............finally

So the Indian government finally caved and decided to appease the terrorists who torched villages and burned truck drivers to death.

Why am I not surprised.

Oh well...the Indian government is doing a splendid job of advancing the separatist cause. They're practically begging the Kashmiri people to rise up against occuption now.

Re: Peace in Jammu ............finally

I don't see anything new in the 'deal'. All it seems to be is a face saving statement 'yeah, we have a deal'! There is no transfer of land and the government will ensure the yatra facilities are provided.

Local traders, muslims and hindus, will continue providing services to the yatris and be able to make some money as in the past.

Ofcourse this would disappoint the geelany types who were hoping the Hindus will continue to press for more so he can use it as fuel for more 'muslim card'
