Muzna, perhaps. I wonder where is his family? Did he have a wife and children? Have they they lost their own sanity, in some other way, by worrying about him for the past 30 years? My heart just broke when I saw that image. I had to come to terms with my own societal stigma, engrained in my own mind, attached to people living in mental hospitals.

, now your making me feel very sad.. :frowning: that image with the mental patient reminds me of a documentary shown on CH4 a couple of years ago about the way mental patients were being treated in Romania by the State Institutions. The scenes were truly distressing it was really emotional seeing people left unattended without even the basic necessities of life. Many of these patients had no toys, no access to TV’s, no books, no change of clothing, no access to the outside world, practically no facilities whatsoever. There only pastime throughout the day seemed to be just steering at the wall or ceiling. :frowning: There maybe thousands of people like this possibly even children, who are trapped within these types of places many of which seem more like a prison rather than an institution.

Btw, There was light at the end of the tunnel for that particular institution, a UK based charity raised thousands of pounds to upgrade the hospital and provide adequate funds for its daily operation. The cameras returned to the same place at a later date, many of the patients were now smiling, talking and even playing. :). Just shows each and everyone of us can make a positive difference to our Society.
