If you have a regular PDF file, how do you convert it into one onto which you can type directly?

"Powerchm" can convert pdf to chm.

assuming that you are using adobe acrobat reader, you can copy (from pdf) and paste (to Ms Word or Notepad etc). You will have to use the "Select Text" option on adobe reader.

and .chm is an editable format? Its compiled html which doesn’t let you type.

It may not create editable files but I’m going to love this app. I have grown sooo tired of pdf e-books. Loving .chm, even on Mac’s.

That will only works if the PDF-file is not copy-protected.

There are some pdf-to-word converters which can even convert copy/print protected pdf files in MS Word format.
