PCOS ....

salam all,

just got back from the doctors …got diagnosed with PCOS …feel like crying… on the positive side he said its a mild form of pcos and we started early so better my chances of overcoming this prob inshAllah. The doctor put me on a dosage of 1500 mg per day metformin. I have been reading that most doctors start off with a smaller dose and if that doesn’t work increase the dosage. Also I have been told to lose at least 20 pounds and this should take care of itself. The doctor had no answer for why i was spotting last month. I have never spotted in my life. I have irregular periods on and off but never spotting. I don’t really have excessively heavy periods.
Doctor told me to stay away from chicken. I guess I just want to know what some of you did… what your advice to me would be. Gupshup does take a load off our shoulders when it comes to sharing and wanting advice.

Re: PCOS …

sadi :hugz: Atleast you figured out what the issue is and can work towards fixing it instead of hoping there is nothing going on. A friend of mine has it and she took clomid to concieve. I have personally not used it but have heard others have sucess with Metformin. InshaAllah things will work out soon for you!

Why stay away from chicken?

Re: PCOS …

hugs I have heard of people who have conceived while having PCOS, so dont worry, hang in there and trust in Allah and inshallah you too will be blessed with a baby soon! The good news is that you are aware of your condition so you can know learn what to do..many women dont even realize they have and try and try to conceive…so you are at least on the right track, try to learn as much as you can about it, so you can make the best decisions…sorry Im not very helpful as I dont even know that much about it myself, but I do remember reading of other guppies sharing their experience, inshallah it will help you

Re: PCOS ....

Hi Sadi -

I know how you feel.

I have/had PCOS. I was also told to take metfromin 1500 mg a day. There are little side effects (a bit of nausea and lose stomach). If you can take the name brand instead of the generic one.

Metformin is basically going to regulate your cycles, control the spikes in insulin. It also eliminates hunger a bit so it will help you take off the weight.

If you are trying to conceive - it did work for me. Infact I took metformin through out my 1st and 2nd trimester of my first pregnancy.

If you are NOT trying to conceive - just be a bit careful. It does make you a bit fertitle.

Eventually after my kids - I didn't need to take it. I took 500mg last year and now completely off it.

I still don't know Why he asked no to have chicken.
